Mercadante Woodfired Pizzeria

It can be a bit daunting running the gauntlet down Lygon Street - they all look busy (=good?) and the street-based hosts equally enthusiastic about their respective restaurants. For no good reason (beyond the teenager's excitement at the promise of a free chocolate dessert pizza) we chose Mercadante Woodfired Pizza. It was pumping but the wait staff made you feel special. The service was unrushed but really efficient. The food was awesome - 3 x pasta mains, then pizza dessert (yum!!!!!!!!!!). Including a couple of wines, drinks and mains plus dessert, $73. I reckon good value. Perhaps not where I'd go for s romantic meal for two but for sheer vibe, energy, fun and good fare, it was excellent...

This restaurant was pretty authentic. Nice pizzas and pastas, my only issue was when We asked for Parmesan cheese for the pastas and they gave us the Parmesan powder instead of freshly grated cheese. It definitely ruins the taste of the pasta. The atmosphere was happy and not too squashy inside, outside would have been nice but it was far too cold.The Nutella pizza was much better than expected. I pictured a pizza base slathered with Nutella, instead it was slithers of pizza base drizzled with Nutella which was very tasty. Recommend having that for dessert!

Nos guiamos por la recomendación de varios blogs y fuímos directamente a la caza de esta pizzeria. Estaba hasta arriba de gente, pero esperando un poco conseguimos una mesita para 2; las pizzas tenían un gran tamaño y la calidad, exquisita. El local, familar. De las mejores pizzerías en las que he estado. Y ya que estábamos allí, pedimos también el postre estrella del establecimiento, el Sfilatino. ¡Qué locura! Si volvemos de vacaciones a Australia y pasamos por Melbourne, repetiremos.

What can I say the food here is exceptional we all had different meals and they were all superb and the deserts are to die for especially the chocolate pizza ...soooo good and the service is great too thank you Karlos and staff we will be back for sure.

As a fan of the thin crust pizza we were very happy with the meal. We shared a tasty chorizo entree and the two pizzas were full of flavour and beautifully presented.
