A family member in France had recommended this out-of-the-way spot in some idyllic mountain valley country alongside a rolling stream, 30km from the famous Millau Viaduct as well as the centre of Roquefort cheese. The Prelorenzo lineage is just handing over to daughter as the 6th generation at this location. This is great country cooking. We ate there two nights in succession, and stayed in the modest simple hotel above with just 18 rooms. (That is very modestly priced, nothing fancy, and no wifi and very poor phone reception in the valley. There are no fads in the cooking, just great produce, perfectly cooked the old fashioned way. In fact a lot of the vegetables are grown within 500 metres...
C'était un endroit préféré pour nos repas spéciaux à l'époque où M. Mme Papillon dirigeait le restaurant. Il y a un cadre magique et beaucoup de bons souvenirs. Cependant, notre récente visite a été une véritable déception. Le service habituellement poli avait évolué vers une arrogance de milieu de gamme, et le délicieux plat principal attendu était trop cher et trop gras, la viande variant selon la coupe entre crue et bien cuite. Quelle honte. J'espère que les propriétaires relativement nouveaux examineront longuement la qualité de leurs plats principaux et la formation du nouveau personnel qui les sert.
It's our third time at Papillon we weren't disappointed, in fact every time it seems to get better. We selected the 20 Euros Menu, which is very interesting with local specialities and very well prepared, the cheese board is excellent with an array of local cheeses. there are other menus which are excellent. Service is charming and attentive, house wine is excellent and very good value for money, our table had an excellent view over the leafy river and the bridge. After lunch we were invited to relax in the chaise-longes by the pool.
