Have a backup plan!In all honesty, this place has some of the best Hawaiian bbq food and shoyu poke I've ever had, but the hours are so utterly horrid, inconsistent and poorly communicated (if communicated at all outside of a single minimal piece of paper on the front door, which of course, is only visible once you already made the drive) that I'm hardly able to eat here at all! In most if not all expectations or judgments, a lack of something to expect is a failure by default, but then again the food is so good that its almost hard not to recommend, if you do plan to stop by, definitely come with a backup plan!
Was just recently introduced to Nalu's and I'm hooked! I'm so sad this is only in OC and I'm not able to get this in LA. My go-to is the garlic seared Ahi and it's so good every time. Depending on the day, sometimes it's seared lightly and sometimes it's seared a little longer but either way it's delicious each time. The sauce on top goes perfect with the rice and adds more flavor to each bite.The sides are also a hit. The Mac salad is rich yet light. And the Asian coleslaw is a 10/10. Pair it with a can of your favorite Hawaiian juice and you have yourself a meal.
3.5 starsShould've been better. Shoyu poke was too much soy sauce, not enough sesame oil. The salmon poke was a bit stringy. Bad choice.The grilled swai was better and well seasoned. It came with macaroni salad and rice.I asked the guy which dish would be better for my kids, but he wasn't able to recommend anything. Fair enough. I appreciate it that wild fish and farmed fish was marked on the menu.The food court set up is really great for groups or if your group wants to eat different food.
Completely satisfied with both food and service on my first experience with this place. So many items menu are enticing, making my lunchtime pick difficult. I finally settled on the Teri steak and kalua pork plate for 12$. Generous meat portions accompanied by plenty of cole slaw and cabbage shreds to make you feel you’ve had a healthy meal. You can enjoy the outdoor space under heat lamp. You can byo beer as they don’t serve alcohol.

Although there was a slight issue with the service, both dishes were outstanding. My panko-crusted aji was perfectly cooked and topped with a delicate sauce. The meal came with fresh steamed vegetables and brown rice, creating a flavorful, filling, and nutritious lunch. Considering the quality, portion size, and location, the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be coming back!
I absolutely love this place! With outdoor seating, a convenient location, and fresh, daily-prepared Hawaiian dishes, it’s simply perfect!
The gentleman was incredibly accommodating of my detox restrictions and was just amazing. I genuinely appreciate his time and advice.
