If Nick's was in Atlanta it wouldn't get four stars, but it's the best American-style fried chicken I've had in Germany, so I'm ranking it based on that not on some farcical comparison to some the places I've gotten the good stuff closer to the...American South (see, for example Hominy Grill, Fred Chason's, Thelma's, etc etc etc). Service was friendly enough for me, again the fair comparison is to other imbiss places in Germany, none of which tend to even be in the same sport as a restaurant with true southern hospitality, let alone in the same league. The fried chicken has a thinner batter than KFC, but frankly I appreciate that, ditto for the MUCH lower salt content (aka my mouth wasn't literally burned by the salt concentration). The chicken was still moist inside to boot, and the cole slaw was plain but not too mayo-y, which is another pet peeve for me. I wouldn't drive from Frankfurt for Nick's, but I'd get my deep-fried fix on again if I'm in the area.
Great fresh chicken fillet sandwich. Juicy and tasty. My Wife had the piece chicken and mashed taters. The mash potatoes are very tasty in the fast food way. The cole slaw is fresh and not bogged down with sauce. The fries were the only...weak point. And weak relatively. They were just basic. But the owner is nice and welcoming. I highly recommend this place.
Nick's, to me, is better than KFC and definitely better than the Popeye's on Ramstein. The chicken always tastes fresh and has never left me disappointed. The restaurant is a little small, but taking it on the go is no issue. If you're in the...Einsiedlerhof area, check out Nick's for quality fried chicken at a low price.
