Wow, what a great restaurant. My wife and I have been privileged to have eaten in some of the best restaurants in London, and indeed, around the world. We had a first class experience at this restaurant, a couple run establishment with a strong history. Chloe, front of house, and Josh, her husband chef made our visit to north Devon most memorable. The six course tasting menu could have easily stood alongside any Michelin starred restaurant, the wine pairing supported the food with ease and Chloe’s service skills made us so comfortable as if we had known her for years. This husband and wife team have made a bold move over the river to a larger venue. The new spot is chic and modern and the tables generously spaced. The two of them run everything seamlessly and produce top quality food seemingly effortlessly. We had the wine flight which was both well matched and generously poured. My only criticism was that service was a bit brisk we had to ask for a break before the brisket dish which was accommodated with no fuss whatsoever. An extra pair of hands front of house to serve arrival drinks and seat guests, clear plates could possibly help but I see these two enjoy what they do and they do it incredibly well. We were extremely dissatisfied with our experience at this restaurant as pescatarians/vegetarians. The options provided were lacking in thought and flavor. The breaded aubergine served as a substitute for lamb was particularly uninspiring, with no taste at all. The chargrilled courgette offered in place of chicken was also disappointing. At a price of £85, we were thoroughly unimpressed. Those who do not eat meat should probably avoid this restaurant as it is clear that the chef isn't interested in catering to non-meat eaters. Additionally, the service was subpar considering the cost; we had to refill our own water and wine.
I took my husband here for his birthday dinner and it was unforgettable. The food was incredibly well prepared with so many different elements to them. The portion sizes were perfect, the place was visually beautiful. So glad such a gem is not that far from us. We have already planned to visit again. A credit to the owners! Fabulous Memories made for life, what an outstanding restaurant run by a dedicated couple. I cannot fault the ambiance, attention to detail, the service was outstanding. The taster menu didn’t disappoint, my taste buds danced to the tune of every mouthful of an extensive taste bud teasing experience. Thank you Team Number Eight.
NUMBER EIGHT: We have had the privilege of dining at some incredible restaurants across Europe, but we can confidently say that our experience at Number Eight was one of the best. The food quality, creativity, and presentation were flawless. If this restaurant doesn't deserve a Michelin star, then nothing does!
We used to come to North Devon regularly but haven’t been for over 20 years What a delight then to find this wonderful restaurant which we were lucky enough to get a table at because of a late cancellation The set menu was brilliant and the wine pairing just right Thank you for a lovely evening
