This is probably more like a 3.5 but I'll give it 4 because I like the idea and the menu. It's a cute restaurant near Pearl street with a nice ambiance. Came here with my husband and kids on a Saturday night at 5pm and they were able to seat us without a reservation. Service was friendly and great at times, and a little slower at others. No kids menu but they do offer chicken fingers/fries or buttered pasta for the kiddos. Both kids got the chicken fingers and fries and reported that the fries were the best they've ever had and they've eaten a lot of fries . My wife and I had an amazing dinner at Oak on Friday, July 19th. We had the kale, apple, walnut salad, the halibut and the lamb chops. The wines and deserts recommended were also great. Dinner was presented beautifully and the food was incredible. The plating was top notch. The fish was flaky, but moist, and lamb was perfectly medium rare! The food and drink deserved 5 stars by themselves, but what really stood out was the incredible team. We had the opportunity to sit at the chef's counter, where we were amazed at how professional and hard working the waitstaff and kitchen team performed, plus it was practically a show watching the meals being prepared. Called and made an 8:00 reservation for our anniversary, arrived at 7:55 and was told there was no reservation for us. They did manage to squeeze us in at a two top against the wall. Alexis was our server, and she was the best part of our evening! My husband ordered the Pork dish which was a stunner! Complex flavors, tons of depth to the sauces and tender pork. I ordered the Hanger steak, medium rare. It was served rare, like raw, purple, rare. It has a sear on one side, but the other side was rare to the edge like it was flipped for a second and plated. I’m honestly disappointed. We have dined here before Covid a few times including for a big birthday and we were looking forward to dining here again tonight. Their portions have decreased to a point that I am leaving hungry and I am 105 lbs. We didn’t have time for multiple courses especially with the snail pace service and they don’t have a large enough or varied enough menu to really make a point of doing so. Additionally, it’s seriously inconsiderate to offer only white carbs for vegetarian entrees so unthoughtful they might as well have nothing at all. The meatball dish was decent. Everything tasted good together, but I found the meatball to be a bit drier and tougher than I prefer. However, the portion size was ample, and it left me feeling quite full. On the service side, my server was very attentive, always quick to refill my water and check on how I was doing. The downside was that the food took a long time to arrive. I was slowly savoring my salad, saving some to accompany the meatballs, but the main dish took forever to come out! I finished the salad and then ended up waiting an additional 20 to 30 minutes. By that time, it had been 45 minutes since I placed my order.
Fresh, light and harvesty flavors. Enjoyed the crisp mushrooms and roasted carrots. The fish and sweet pea ceviche were also ???? and then the roasted chicken and leeks were juicy and perfectly prepared. The sauce game is on point here every dish isglazed or dipped into a complimentary flavor that enhances the flavor. Great wine menu as well! Can?t wait to come back nexttime I?m in town.
Had a reservation and the host was extremely rude and acted as if we didn’t exist. After 15 minute past my reservation and the host dodging me multiple time we just left. So much for ambiance there was a junkie shooting up about five feet from the outdoor seating area. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
Had a mixed drink that was absolutely the weakest drink I have ever purchased. When pointed out, they didn’t address. Server knew little about the dishes. Portions were pretty meager. Wonderful atmosphere!! This is a smaller/ more intimate restaurant, and the staff do a really good job at letting the customers weave through the walkways first. Super polite and considerate! If you get the dry aged steak be prepared to share! It's huge! ~10oz I believe.
