There are not a ton of very good Tapas restaurants in San Jose. Oveja Negra was a surprising hit. The Lobster Arancini were fantastic as was the caramelized Cauliflower dish. A very traditional garlic shrimp dish was elevated by a sauce that was emulsified rather than just bubbling butter or oil and garlic. The restaurant is hard to find, located inside the Hotel Valencia in Santana Row on the third floor. Two areas that I could improve: one, the menu is a little complicated in that some dishes are dinner portions and others are tapas but they are not labeled. The waitress did a great job of explaining which dishes were entrée portions and which ones were tapas, but I think you should be able to discern that from the menu itself. Also, the restaurant in a courtyard, which while beautiful can get chilly even with the heaters. I was cold as we went later in the evening and not knowing it was outside, I would have brought a jacket. Not cheap but not expensive, worth a visit

Where can I start? The name of the restaurant is "Oveja Negra" but the logo has a RAM in it (Cabra in Spanish) Wrong animal, just like the dishes trying to pass as Spanish tapas. Have been borne in Spain and traveling home every year, I get it! It is hard to replicate the real Spanish dishes. But common! make a bigger effort to sever the real deal. The Gambas al Ajillo are far, far from the real deal. The Fideua dish is a total insult to Barcelona. I'm sorry but I'm not coming back until I hear you guys are serving the real deal. Or maybe I return as a consultant. Please do not destroy the best food in the world like that

What a wonderful find! The tables are sparsely placed in the hotel's beautiful courtyard. all the food items we ordered were delicious

It's a beautiful venue with delicious food and a delightful ambience. Signage at the street level could be a bit better
