Piato Restaurant - Réserver une table

We were recently in North Sydney and were looking for a place for dinner. After an afternoon walk we found this restaurant which looked small and totally packed out the front full of patrons.Sounded good to us so we phoned friends and turned up for dinner. Still busy out on the street I did not think we would get a table but there were 2 rooms out the back and another upstairs. The food was fabulous. Entrees to share tapas style of grilled Haloumi, Calamari, Scallops and King Prawns.Mains were amazing with the most tender slow roasted shoulder of lamb for 2, Seafood Saffron Risotto and a whole Pan Roasted Rainbow Trout.We would certainly go back again. Sadly, not a good experience. The setting/ambiance is very nice. But from the start, the service was haphazard at best. I ordered a gin and tonic, my wife and son soda, lime and bitters. Mine came without gin, the others with it! My entree was anchovies on sourdough - the waiter served my bread with his hands! My wife had salmon as a main course and the fish would have swum in oceans not as deep as the amount of oil on the dish. When it came to fixing up the bill, we were brusquely informed: "just pay at the front on the way out, mate". Shame...

Happend on this place whilst staying in North Sydney.Great find.Very cosy and friendly with great home style Italian food plus a good selection of tapas style dishes.Good service and a better than OK wine list.We sat in a beautiful enclosed courtyard, but there is also street seating with heaters which would be great during the day.Strongly recommend this place.

Taking a starving uni offspring to a tapas restaurant and equally hungry younger sister can be a $ pit ...but we were pleasantly surprised at piato...great food -something for everyone; service -staff very accommodating and well priced...tapas serves were generous and the starving uni student thought the pork honey ribs were the best he had tried...

We try to eat close to the Harbourside apartments and we've found Piato to be a great spot for an early dinner. Start with a glass of wine, outside under the heat lamps is a wonderful people watching spot. We usually follow with pasta to share and then a main course, again to share. Staff is great and friendly
