While the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, unfortunately, the dining experience fell short due to below-average service and food lacking in seasoning and flavor. While catchy and enticing menu food item titles were abundant, the presentation and overall taste was frankly lackluster. The waitstaff seemed preoccupied and inattentive, resulting in miscommunication of the customers’ needs. As stated, the dishes lacked flavor and could have benefited greatly from more seasoning or love. Overall, while the potential was there, the execution left much to be desired.
Excellent place for a nice business lunch. Enjoy the fact that the menu is lunch and breakfast. As with anyplace in Southern California, the prices have risen so lunch for two with water for one person and ice tea for the other and a 20% tip was $61 so it is not an inexpensive meal. And sitting outside at the curbside tables was lovely, but the many ambulances and firetrucks going by were loud so just be prepared. We really enjoyed the meal and the food was very good. Server was friendly and we felt very welcomed.
Plate 38 was the perfect place to meet family for a Sunday Brunch. The drinks were delicious for all of us, the food, was okay. We had a side of fries which the whole table really enjoyed, the Turkey Sandwich, which was mediocre, the Chilaquiles were also just mediocre, the lox bagel was great, my husband thoroughly enjoyed it, and my Garden Salad was also delicious. The service could have been a bit better, when we arrive there were only a few tables seated and it took about 10 min to get our drink orders in.
This is about the 10th time I have eaten at this restaurant and it NEVER disappoints. It is consistently excellent with a very extensive menu. You cannnot go wrong at this place. We drive 45 minutes to eat there and it is definitely worth it.

I love Plate 38. It’s got an eclectic menu that is usually fabulous, a great happy hour and reasonable noise levels. The service has been a little slow of late but they seem to be trying to improve it.
We were in town to see the Quebe Sisters concert in AltadenaBecause we drove 50+ miles, we left early to beat traffic and needed to eat and kill time.
As soon as we walked in were greeted by a very friendly hostess and asked where we wanted to sitWe sat on the patio because the weather was beautiful.

Love the taco's tuna and the grilled fish. Great drinks, service, and ambiance.
Perfect spot for a great, casual lunch. Good was great as was the service.
