This place is in the same location as a previous restaurant and they pretty much kept the décor when they re-opened. One of the waiters told us that the chef was the same too but the food seems even better somehow (and it was pretty great before!).We went there for a late lunch (around 3 PM) so the place was quiet but we've been there at dinner when it was busier. Stopped in with a neighbor for breakfast on our way to a market. What a mistake !! Very unfriendly waitress ,coffee was so strong my friend had to ask for hot water to dilute .Restaurant was not busy food took a long time but would have been ok if at least the result was delicious .Instead both our hash browns were cold when I told the waitress she offered to get me an other serving but I declined as it seemed I had a lot of food. She never bothered to tell the kitchen just stood at the back talking to the other server .My food was so salty I couldn't eat it .My friends basic breakfast was no home run either. My husband and I have been Rae's three times now now since it's reopened from 925. Upon our first visit we truly enjoyed the bourbon glazed ribs. They were excellent! Upon our next visit, that is exactly what I expected to order however we were informed that the sous chef who developed the recipe had left and they were using up the last batch. It was pretty clear that even though the ingredients were there whoever prepared them did not have the technique down - they were not very good. Friends told us about this place, so we had to check it out. Stopped in for lunch & were really impressed.So great to have an alternative to the chain restaurants! The service was great, fast, informative & friendly. and the food...great!! Hubby had Kildonan burger & tossed salad, and was impressed with the quality of the beef & condiments (esp the balsamic reduction). I had the pickerel... 2 large pieces, delicious & moist with a light panko coating, served on a mound of homecut fries. We were quite impressed with the quality & presentation! I always like a restaurant that has booths, it is cozy. There are also tables and a great bar to eat at. We went for dinner and found the choices typical with specials on the board. Burgers seemed to be the choice for all four of us, two beef and two vegetarian. Salads and fries were also good. We were really impressed with the professionalism of the waitress. She asked all the appropriate questions regarding diet restrictions, our approval of the wine and beer chosen. Service was swift and efficient. No blaring music, making for an enjoyable social get together.
We have visited Rae's for dinner but never for brunch and today our family decided to celebrate Mother's Day at Rae's. Our reserved table was ready on time, the service was friendly and prompt. The Rae's Benny and the Sacked Salmon Benny were great! The adults and the little ones enjoyed their meals. I should mention the place was quite busy from when we arrived to when we left, but the service was still great. Rae's is quickly becoming a favourite restaurant for us. Keep up to great job!
This bistro reopened after the original owners moved on. The new owners have appeared to kept the decor the same but changed the menu. It is appealing and fresh. We were treated well by the staff, everyone we met was friendly and cordial. Our meals were well prepared, very tasty and filling. We did not leave wanting anything. Hopefully the Bistro will continue to serve our community for some time.
Service was great, Food was excellent, and most importantly beer variety was impressive! I had one of the chalkboard specials - a prime rib pizza, of which every ingredient was fantastic. Had pb & j cheesecake for dessert and we all loved it. I am happy we have a place like this in our neighborhood. My only regret was not getting a burger.......Next time! Réservez une table maintenant
Stopped by for lunch with my wife who had been there before and seemed to like it. I made the mistake of ordering their "Famous" Kildonan burger. The meat paddy was dry, over salted, and tasteless!I thought for a moment that maybe kids somewhere were playing street Hockey and were missing their puck!
