on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the oktober was a lot going on here, at least the popular terrace was fully occupied. There was something free inside. we waited some time until we got a place outside. the cakes were very good, inexpensive (3,90 Euro/Kuchenstück) usual for a caffe on the chiemsee. great view of the lake and quiet because the caffe is located a bit away from a nearby road. the tables were still kept while the guests were sitting, reserved for subsequent guests already waiting. you felt a little under unpredicted time pressure. ambiente, also inside, very nice.
We visited Rene's Cafe at least once a week for 8 weeks. It's a little out of the way and situated on the lake, with amazing views from the terrace cafe. I never actually ate anything from the menu except cake; and eventually tried them all. The very favourite and most eaten was the Schwarzwalder Kirschetorte which was spectacular every time.The only cake not to my taste was the Mohnkuchen, but managed to finish it. They serve a beautiful Gruner Vertliner and many kinds of beer.Lovely wait staff who presented me with Chiemsee Oblaten at the end of my holiday. I miss it!
We were passing through the area and saw this place had good reviews. The food was lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect for looking out over the lake too. My only advice would be to take cash as they don't accept card payments and be careful where you park as we accidentally got locked in the hotel next doors car park. They did let us out easily but it's worth knowing.
