Since we were going to a wedding in Sancerre, we were looking for the perfect place to stay. We found La Chanceliere in Saint-Satur and ended up booking all rooms for the guests. One evening we arranged, with the owners, Nicole and her husband, to prepare a dinner for us and it was absolutely fantastic with Sancerre wine, cheeses, cakes etc. We had a long table on their beautiful terrace and it couldn't have been better. After dining at both La Domaine des Tortinières where we stayed for four nights, and Chateau d'Artigny, we took a chance on trying something less pretentious but well reviewed close to our hotel. Restaurant La Chancelière in Montbazon turned out to be a home run in an area with other good choices. Chef Oliver Argot graciously serves the dishes himself while carefully reminding you what the sauce is composed of. His cuisine is careful and inventive but adheres to good sense and the advantages of using local products. We were recommended to try this place by friends and we were so glad we followed their suggestion - La Chancelerie has a wonderful relaxed ambience and offers à la carte as well as a 7 course tasting menu which we selected. Each course was a surprise and utterly delicious. Portion sizes were perfect - just enough so you didn't feel overly full at the end (which with appetizers / petits fours was more like 9 courses!) 79 euros was excellent value when so many other restaurants of a similar standard charge double that. Will definitely be going back.
This is Michelin star standard. The food was inventive and exploding with flavour. All three of us had different dishes. All were beautifully presented as well as being culinary delights. Service was fab. If you want to eat like this in the UK you'd have to pay twice as much. 38E for three wonderful courses plus a couple of free tasters each to get us going. GO.

The restaurant has been renamed - Olivier Arlot. We hesitated to go in as we were on a budget but decided to try it anyway. To our suprise, as it isn't on display outdoors, there was a set menu for lunch just 24E. The meal was simple and beautifully cooked and presented, the service friendly and relaxed. We will be back to eat a la carte soon.
We had an excellent meal at this restaurant in a village to the south of Tours. We were fortunate to arrive early and were served by the patron, Olivier, who was charming and attentive. His suggested choice of white wine was particularly welcome. My red mullet main course was outstanding.
We shared an enjoyable evening at this quaint restaurant. The menu is inventive and the service was excellent. While the cuisine certainly delighted, it did not "wow" us. Hence, the 4 vs a 5.
The restaurant has terrific service, a nice variety of local choices of food on the menu and a good also local wine list. It is worth a trip for dinner.
