On a special occasion, after a first disappointment, we decided to test out the Wagyu again. We had booked a table via a booking service site which offered 30% discount on a la carte dining. When we arrived the restaurant was, as it was a Monday, fairly empty, and we had the choice of seating. We sat in the veranda which, through its big windows allows you a wonderful view over the lake and the harbour. The service was very nice. On ordering we avoided though, as at the first time, the beef. As a starter we ordered the Tempura Moriawase. It was a great pleasure and tasted really good. We went form a dinner in this restaurant using the Passeport gourmand which gives us a discout. Without this the restaurant is very expensive. Even with the discount you pay quite a bit. I actually wanted to try the famous Kobe beef steak, but with 188 Swiss Francs I found this to be too expensive even with the discount. I took the Wagyu beef steak which should be a bit of lower quality than the Kobe, but should still offer an exceptional sensation. Well, I was disappointed. The meat was not juicy and it had a lot of fat. I tried a piece of the normal steak that my son took (which cost half of my Wagyu) and I liked it much more. It’s on the first floor of a building without a terrace so we weren’t sure about going there in a balmy summer evening. However, with big sliding windows that look right onto the port of Lutry and out over the lake to France, we didn’t miss out at all. Thanks to some gift vouchers, we were able to gorge ourselves without a huge bill. Because one problem with this restaurant is that it’s hugely expensive and having lived almost all my life in Asia I crave my Japanese fix and would love to be able to come here more often. Notwithstanding the pricy menu, we did enjoy the superb 40-Piece Sushi Boat Platter. It had generous portions of maki and came with beautiful tuna, salmon and yellowtail sash...
I’ordered the menu that includes that wagyu beef steak, and other Maki and Sushi items for the rest of my guests. Unfortunately there’s nothing special about the sushi or maki, in fact, there are better quality sushi and maki found in other places at a much competitive prices. However, the Wagyu steak was fine, and this only allowed me to give additional rating point from 2 to 3. Maybe someone else have a different perspective on rating this Joint, but personally I won’t give it another try.
I highly recommend this restaurant! It is classy, with its own parking and right by the lakeside with a gorgeous view of the port and lake. The food is delicious and freshly made with obvious care. The personnel were very polite and always there when we needed them. The price is a bit higher than at average restaurants but definitely worth it! I can't wait to eat there again!
