"Excellent and very cosy traditional place; limited menu but good! The atmosphere is great- menu a bit limited but the rostis were amazing. Mushroom rosti especially good! Good salads,too. Will go back :"

Located in the countryside, just about 20 minutes walk or 3 minutes drive from Kandersteg, a small village. Very beautiful scenery, and the historic house is really beautiful. This is the reason it is often used for photos about Switzerland and many famous people have been here for lunch or dinner. Unfortunately the service is not good. All staff are not Swiss and barely speak German, they are not friendly and not attentive nor client oriented. From a service perspective this is more like a tourist trap. I wonder how the famous people managed with this bad service...??? Also the food does not convince: the salad comes with a ready made sauce, not good at all. The cheese gratin was ok, the Rösti was good. Overall not convincing food. If you want to be in a very nice historical place and do not mind the lack of service and food quality , then I recommend to visit this lovely place. Hopefully they can improve the service and food.
We went to Ruedihus to eat fondue but because we hadn't reserved, we were told to go upstairs to the 1st floor. Thinking we could also eat fondue there, we were a little disappointed when we were told that they do not serve fondue upstairs. We stayed and did not regret that decision! I ate one of the best meals I've had in quite a long time. Delicious rösti and veal and a lovely array of vegetables. We sat next to a charming couple attending the Belle Epoque days, they were dressed in Belle Epoque attire which made the setting simply perfect.
This restaurant specialises in traditional Swiss dishes such as Fondue and Raclette. The whole building is quite old and constructed and furnished in traditional style. Service was good, friendly and promptly served. Food was excellent the raclette top class. The seating downstairs suffers from a high intensity of flies. Upstairs (which possibly may only be open on Fridays and at weekends) is mostly fly free and the decor is more refined.
