Mmmm. Don't judge this restaurant by the outside appearance. It looked like a sketchy Pizza Hut from the outside but inside is nicely decorated and very clean. They have vegetarian (no fish broth miso soup which was one of my favorites. Everyone in our group loved the rolls and nigiri platter they ordered. They were able to accommodate gluten allergies with ease from supplying gf soy sauce to making a vegetarian glass noodle dish for me that was also gluten free so we could all share and our server was very friendly. Best Sushi in YEG. Don't be fooled by the pizza hut roof and the offbeat location this place means business. The sushi places I frequent don't hold a candle to Sabu. The gyoza looked handmade, each of the rolls had the freshest fish I've tasted on this side of the rocky mountains and the service was great. The gyoza, rose rose roll, spicy tuna sesame roll and the beef bulgogi roll each made a statement. The fish/meat was plentiful and delicious. Best place for lunch if food can come a little quicker. They have great portion size and all the foods taste very good. But service is really slow. I have been there quite a few times with co worker in the past few months, and with no exception, our foods usually take at least 30 min to come every time... which means we had to really rush to finish it and get back to work... There's only one lady serving during the whole time when there are about 10 tables seated (seating customers, serving drinks and foods, bussing table, and collecting bills.... I really wonder if they would hire more help just to get them through lunch hours???
I highly recommend trying Sabu. This was my second visit and once again, it exceeded my expectations. The attention to detail in the food preparation was impressive, with precise knife cuts, hot dishes served hot, and cold dishes served cold. The flavors were bold and the marinades were perfectly balanced. It's evident that the chefs have a true passion for what they do. The service was quick and friendly, and our requests were taken care of promptly. We will definitely be returning and telling others about this amazing restaurant.
A for effort. We descended upon Sabu after a karate tournament...We had preordered the food and most everything was ready when we arrived....only three dishes forgotten but the oversight was very quickly corrected. Everyone was very happy with the fare and the service....We may just have to make this an annual post tournament event...thank You Sabu!
My boyfriend and I have been here a couple times, and it's great! Quality sushi, lots of choices, fast service, and the staff are very nice. The restaurant is cozy too. The couple times we've been in there we are almost the only ones there! I don't know why there aren't more people, because it is so good.
