**Restaurant Review Update (9/2/22):**
What a disappointing turn of events. We ordered delivery and experienced something inexplicable—the food quality seems to have plummeted overnight. The menu has changed, and even the items that remain are entirely different. Check out my new photos. The seaweed salad was just a container of lettuce with a small amount of seaweed. The cucumber salad was similar, featuring plain cucumbers with an unusual ginger dressing.

I ordered takeout from this restaurant last night. My husband went to pick it up but accidentally went to the wrong place, which we thought was closed since there was a "for lease" sign on the door. We called the restaurant but didn't get an answer, so we gave up.
Two hours later, we received a call letting us know that our food was still there waiting for us. After finding a picture of their storefront on Google, we realized our mistake and felt so embarrassed! By that time, we had already eaten somewhere else, so we didn’t want to place a large sushi order.
The staff was incredibly understanding and friendly about the situation. They even offered us a refund, despite it being our fault....
We have been regulars at this restaurant for many years, so we know what to expect when it comes to quality, flavor, and service. Recently, we decided to dine in, and I ordered my usual salmon dish. To my surprise, it looked completely different this time. The salmon and vegetables were quite dry and lacked flavor, although the miso soup and salad were enjoyable. In the past, the food was so satisfying that I would finish my meal in a single sitting. However, on this occasion, I struggled to eat even half of it and considered whether I should take it home. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I don’t think we’ll be coming back.
Sagano Sushi is a fantastic little spot featuring authentic staff, a cozy atmosphere, and a charming bar. The highlight was definitely the food—fresh rice, creative rolls with bold flavors, and thoughtful twists on classic favorites. Their inventive, flavorful drinks complemented the meal perfectly. The friendly team ensured we had a great time. The spicy honey tuna roll was a delightful surprise, and the octopus was the best I’ve had in a long time. Although prices have gone up somewhat recently, the quality and experience make it well worth it. I’ll definitely make time to visit again next time I’m in town.

On September 4, 2022, this restaurant has long been my family's go-to sushi spot. We visited a few weeks ago and everything was great, but this time it felt like a completely different place. The quality had noticeably dropped: our order was missing a roll and some fish pieces, there were ingredients missing from our rolls, we found plastic in the ginger, and there was avocado skin in one of the rolls. It's truly disappointing and unfortunate, but now we'll need to find a new sushi restaurant.
This is one of my favorite places. It's cozy, with just a few tables, but the sushi is absolutely incredible. The owners are extremely friendly; they even gave my daughter a really cute mask for school. This was our second visit, and they remembered us from a month ago. Sometimes it gets busier than expected, but it’s definitely worth the wait. It was a wonderful way to wrap up my Father's Day celebration. We’ll be back soon!
9/4/2022 Usually my family’s go to sushi place, had it a few weeks ago and was normal and delicious, but this time around it was like a whole new place. The quality was way down, our order was missing a roll and pieces of fish, ingredients missing fromrolls, plastic found in some ginger, and avocado skin in roll. Really sad and unfortunate, but now we are just going to have tofind a new place for our sushi.
Update: I recently visited for lunch during the week and found the restaurant to have a lovely ambiance. It was quite comfortable inside, and they also have a few tables outdoors on the sidewalk. The service was good; it wasn’t busy when we were there, so the staff was attentive without being intrusive. And of course, the food was fantastic and beautifully presented.

I absolutely love this restaurant! The fried spicy tuna is incredible. It's my favorite spot for sushi in Oak Park—always delicious with excellent service!
Excellent sushi! The avocado salad was the best I've ever had. The service was outstanding. Highly recommended!
