This restaurant was a pretty mixed experience for me. We ate at this restaurant as a plan B , so we walked in on a Friday night without a reservation. No reservation meant that we were immediately told we had to wait 45 minutes. We took a seat at the bar area to wait for the table. The bar area was very full, making it noticeably hot. There was loud music making it difficult to hear the person sitting next to me. Some might really like this kind of scene, but I guess it just didn 't feel like the atmosphere I expected from a Japanese restaurant. After a lengthy wait, we were finally seated in an area that was much more comfortable as it was much cooler and quieter. I ordered a bowl of ramen noodles (Shio or Tonkotsu, I can 't remember) with extra pork. The ramen was phenomenal! Our waitress was also generally attentive and patient with us. In the end, I would consider going back as I really enjoyed the food. But, I probably wouldn 't do so without a reservation on a busy night, and I would probably also try to avoid any night where there is a club like atmosphere if possible.

My only dislike is the music is too loud to have a conversation, but if that is the atmosphere you are going for it’s great. Sushi and service is great and dining outside with the little trees lit up is super cute! We got 4 sushi rolls and all were great but one was just meh. It was the one we’re it was steak mixed with spicy tuna, but I’m still glad I tried something new. Parking: For those unfamiliar with Arlington heights parking, there is a free parking garage two blocks away but you cannot park in floors 2 and 3 without a paid permit. So it’s a lot if winding up and down. I would try to find street parking if you can. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly imo, save this for date night or guys/girls night Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Parking space: Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options Free street parking, Free parking garage

Shakou is always a hit. The volcano roll is our go to and my son is so obsessed with their Mac and cheese that he constantly wants to go there for it! Love the ambiance! Last time we went, though, the service wasn’t amazing and our waiter consistently helped others around us before us when we had been there significantly earlier but got to order after other tables. Sushi was so disappointing! Hostess was rude, room way too loud and cold. Not sure why the place is so popular! Definitely not worth the prices we paid won't be back.
