This was my first time in Glencoe to watch a show at Writer's Theater, and I stopped by this place for a meal before the show. It seems to be the only Chinese restaurant in the entire town and also one of the few places both open at night and relatively affordable. My friend and I ordered the Walnut Shrimp Special and Sauteed Green Beans. We were told it would take 30 minutes, so we sat inside to wait, and the food came out right on time and piping hot. You can't dine in the restaurant though, as they don't have a dining license. 9 times out of 10, Chinese takeout will always hit for me, and Shanghai Garden was no exception. The green beans were flavorful and well sauteed. The walnut shrimp...

We were disappointed to find that our experience at Shanghai Garden did not align with the glowing reviews we had read. We were excited to try the Kung Pao Chicken, but it turned out to be one of the blandest dishes I've ever had. It tasted almost identical to the Chicken with Broccoli we also ordered. Not even a sprinkle of red pepper flakes could salvage it, and I was frustrated to find no red pepper pods in sight. Unfortunately, the steamed pot stickers fared even worse; the dumpling skin was so thick it resembled an empanada. On the bright side, the small amount of pork filling was nicely seasoned. After 25 years of living on the North Shore, this was our first visit to Shanghai Garden,...

I've typically had good experiences with Chinese takeout, and Shanghai Garden lived up to my expectations. The green beans were tasty and perfectly sautéed, while the walnut shrimp had a wonderful crispy texture and a tangy flavor, enhanced by broccoli and crunchy noodle pieces. The portion sizes were generous for the price, and they even included a large box of rice with our meal. At only $15 per person, we ended up with plenty of leftovers. Overall, I found incredible value in the delicious food, ample portions, and friendly service. I'll certainly return if I'm in the area again! —Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Ambience: N/A Service: 5/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5

The food was delicious, but the menu was a bit confusing. There were no physical menus available at the restaurant, which led to discrepancies between what I found online and what I was told I could order. While I was waiting, several 12-year-olds came in and out with ice cream bars, but I couldn't figure out where they got them. Glencoe is quite unusual. Réservez une table maintenant

The staff was courteous and welcoming, and the Chinese cuisine was outstanding. I enjoyed lunch there, spending approximately $20–30 per person. I would give the food a 5, the service a 5, and the atmosphere a 5 as well. I highly recommend trying the Kung Pao Squid and Hunan Beef.

The food was lacking in flavor and tasted quite bland. The potstickers were doughy and soft, despite my request for them to be cooked thoroughly.
