I was hesitant to visit this restaurant at first due to some of the reviews I had read. Maybe it was just a bad day for the staff or the restaurant was busier than usual, I'm not sure. However, my experience turned out to be quite pleasant. The service was excellent, our server was attentive, timed everything perfectly, and was very friendly. The food exceeded my expectations - I tried the house burger and my family ordered chicken wings, fish and chips, and lasagna. All dishes were delicious and I would recommend them. My wife and I came to Shaw to see the Octoroon we came in without a reservation for dining and our first stop was the Shaw Cafe and Wine Bar. It was a lovely evening we were seated immediately on the patio to take in the fresh air and to people watch.My wife had the pasta with white sauce and chicken and as always my selection was the Cajun Catfish. I traveled in the states regularly a few years back and catfish was a meal I ordered regularly, the meal I had at Shaw was as fine as any I had previously including New Orleans.The staff was cheerful, attentive, knowledgeable with respect to the menu and wines offered.Thank again for a great experience.
This restaurant was the most beautiful one I visited in the area. However, the blonde, tall staff member was unkind. She didn't come to our table until I asked for the receipt, and when she finally did, she didn't wait for my response before asking if I needed a receipt. I am not fluent in English and am not familiar with Canadian culture as I am an international visitor. Despite this, I felt that her behavior was rude. Throughout my trip in Canada, no one else has been rude except for her. I question why the employer would hire someone like her.
I had a fantastic experience dining at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, and the prices were very reasonable, making it a great value. What really stood out was the exceptional staff; they were incredibly attentive and made our visit memorable. The restaurant's ambiance with its lovely decor added to the overall enjoyment of the evening.I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area. It's a wonderful place to enjoy great food and top-notch service.
The Shaw Cafe has a great location, in the middle of a lot of small shops, and near the theaters. Lots of flowers surround the outside seating area, and when we ate there, even some live cello music. The food was all very good. The fish and chips were exactly like the picture, but with more fries. One of us had a ham and brie sandwich. She loved it. The third had a sweet pepper and beef sandwich. All well-prepared and reasonably priced.
Although this restaurant has a great appearance, the quality of the food is very poor. We ordered three burgers, pasta, a chicken wrap, and fish and chips. All three burgers were extremely dry, as shown in the pictures. The pasta was just okay, but at least it was better than the $25 burgers. If you're craving a wrap for lunch, McDonald's has a better version.
6 of us stopped by for dinner on the patio. We were given two tables of differing heights that were pushed together, We ordered lamb shank, lasagne, penne, mussels and quiche. Not the greatest quality and luke warm. Seemed like a place that didn't work too hard for your custom; unlikely to return but not sure they would care.
We find it hard to choose another spot when this one has delivered such a fine experience each summer. To share a plate of mussels and some good wine at a classic cafe table late in the evening, or a sandwich on the patio at lunch, is something we now look forward to, along with the festival plays!
The Shaw Restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere and a menu to please. The flowers around the restaurant are absolutely gorgeous! The ambience at night is also a plus. I had an egg quiche with a side of greens. It was tasty. The prices are fair and the menu had a nice selection.
