This modest Midland Avenue café was a tasty and comfortable place to get a homely breakfast with an original twist. We came to a few open tables under the regular and sat. We were served coffee, but it was also a self-help situation. My spouse asked about the vegetarian options and chose an Omelet. I went with one of the house specialties that chapin: a plate with two eggs (minenüber-easy), warm soft tortillas, a square of white cheese, some cream fresca/sour cream, a cup of black beans, and fried plantains. The curtains came on the plate caramelized and rich with sweet fresh taste just from the hot pan. I put everything together and had tasteful bites I never had before. We also tried to test our Spanish on the morning show on the TV nearby. What else do you want? Do not let the humble interior fool you. The hostess was friendly and the food is worth a trip if you are nearby. It is the kind of small business dinner that actually keeps this big country running.
