Sous Sol has a really unique vibe (i.e: candles on the tables, decorations, furniture). The servers were friendly but nothing exceptional about the services. They will not check on you or your food after the food came or explain/make suggestions on the menu. We ordered quite a bit of different dishes but the highlight turned out to be the bread and butter. All the appetizers were decent, and the dessert was good. However, we were pretty disappointed with the main since they were too salty. The tenderloin was really juicy/tender/high quality but it was just too salty. Sous Soul is Ultra Nostalgia. If you grew up in the 80s this place is like your mom's house in the best way.Jurassic park and Disney on VHS, 80s music on the playlist. Doilies, candles, taxidermy, crosstitch. If this is your childhood then this is Your Soul.The waitresses treat you like family and I believe that's by design. Enjoyed our first time at Sous Sol. Great vibe with unique decor. Tried the S.S. minnow, which was a fun and great tasting drink with a marshmallow to roast. We went with the fois gras, bone marrow, bread, potatoes daphinoise, duck confit, and wild boar. All the dishes had flavors that complemented eachother and left us too stuffed for dessert. Reliable dining choice. Food is always consistent with options to satisfy carnivores and vegetarians alike. The tenderloin is consistently well done, regardless of the variation for the evening. Sides and salads are good as well. Love the potato dauphinoise.Definitely recommend a reservation as the space is small and intimate.Vegetarian options: No specific mains, but two varieties of salad. The food here was very good (a little salty). We had the foie gras, salmon, tenderloin with carrots and potatoes, all were good. Expect to spend around $200 for a couple to eat here, including drinks. The service was on point!! If I were to change anything it would be to reduce the salt in the recipes by about 1/3. I really enjoyed the thoughtfulness in the decor, dishes and cutlery.

We loved where we were seated. A cozy nook and it was such a romantic date spot. The food was very good. Our favourite dish was the potatoes dauphinoise. Our food was a little slow to come out that evening and they apologized and brought us some free drinks. We hadn't even noticed it was slow as we were just enjoying the relaxed pace. Will definitely return!

Great food! Beef tenderloin was delicious but there were a few spots that had a heavy hit of salt. Otherwise it was tender and amazing. Duck confit was wonderful. We loved the grilled cabbage. Potato dauphinois was good but everything else was better. We loved everything about our meal and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

What can I say? This place has the best food in the city. Every time we go somewhere else for an occasion we wish we just went here. Doesn’t get much better than this and I think it’s good value for the quality and size of the portions. Every meal has been memorable, and the service outstanding every time. I really want to write a bad review, because the responses from the owner are a-mazing, but...the meal was so wonderful, I have to speak our truth. This is a great experience in Winnipeg and a wonderful way to end our journey from Quebec to Winnipeg.
