When arriving at the restaurant willing to get a table for my family we had a terrible experience. Seems it’s more important to the staff to get Hallo greetings even if we don’t speak German than being courteous with customers. Too bad we could understand...German and even understood the offensive words from one of the waiters. We didn’t stay to eat and wouldn’t try the restaurant again when back to the region.
As an American who lived in the area for years, I appreciated having this taste of home nearby. However, if you are just visiting Essen it is far from a must...especially as it is well off the beaten path. The burgers are GOOD, but not exceptional. The things I would recommend off of the large menu that are relatively difficult to find elsewhere in town are the eggs (true diner-style omelettes) and desserts.
I will give them five stars for the excellent service of the waiters, beautiful music and ambience. However, the burgers are not good at all. I was really disappointed with the quality of bread and meat. I and my friend spent €33.50 for two Burger meals and a cake shake and I don't think this is money worth considering that we are talking about cheeseburgers.
I give this a 4 for its decor and ambience. The food is OK (likely three stars. Nothing great. Burgers confirmed frozen patties for 14.90 I would expect a higher quality. Most of all the other items deemed frozen. Overall decent. But if yo are going to open an American Diner...why not just copy what an American Diner does. The people are fantastic. Quiet location. They try to convey an authentic American ambiente and they do succeed. Eveyrthing looks like in the US of A. The plates are pretty delicious, the milk shakes are a must, the prices are ok. Major disadvantage: the location (in the middle of nowhere)... would visit it again though.
Today, I was in Star Diner, and want to recommend this place to my friends. Because they made really cool and delicious food. Very kind waiters always smiling and it gives nice atmosphere there.

Very, very good!! The only complaint I have, is they sell Pepsi when the wall is full of CocaCola stuff, I really expected to taste Coca Cola not Pepsi… Réservez une table maintenant
