Treated myself to this special occasion eatery a few months back for enduring a 2 1/2 day continuing ed class. In my Nashville grad school days (> 1 decade) this place was an oft-visited casual TexMex happy hour, after class hangout w/ patio seating right on West End Ave. Other than the remaining patio, the place was unrecognizable, with the interior completely remodeled. For an early dinner with a nearly empty parking lot, the mandatory valet was a bit of a hassle, but likely necessary most nights after 7 due to the restaurant & neighborhood's popularity. I did think the interior plan of medium-sized rooms, as opposed to one giant dining room, was a nice touch, allowing for quite a bit more elbow room than many similar places. My particular room, furnished with all tables, also allowed the servers visual command of their diners from its entrance. They were able to respond quickly when needed w/o continually hovering & poking at the table. Now to the food. I was a bit wary of the house special 'coffee cured' filet, but I was rewarded for trying it. The coffee/sugar rub simply lent a rather neutral but pleasant blackened flavor to the very nice beef. The oniony mashed potatoes were a good idea, but could have used a bit more cream in preparation. I had started with a Faucon salad, apparently an old local fave whose provenance I was unsure but which I remembered on the menu at my school summer job country club. Local specialty or not, it's difficult to go wrong with piles of egg, blue cheese, & bacon. No room for dessert. My 2nd fave Nashville steakhouse, runner up to Sperry's.
