We went on spec on a Sunday while visiting combe. We got a lovely table for lunch, which was imaginative and perfectly executed. The staff were amazing, well trained and pleasant. When paying, I was totally shocked to be told that they only did lunch...on a Sunday, and it was confined to a small part of the lovely dining area. I said that was ludicrous, and indeed, was told they had turned away diners the previous week as the space was used for afternoon tea diners is of billing. Who turns that away. Further, my wife can't have gluten and her sister is diabetic of what possible use is afternoon tea, with sandwishes, cakes, scones etc. I suspect now we are more, rather than less typical of to...

It took me a while to write this review, but I have great memories of this restaurant. Kim, who organized my reservation for the afternoon, was very efficient. She quickly answered all my questions and promptly confirmed everything via email. The staff were excellent and helped my friends decorate the room. Throughout the afternoon, the staff were attentive, polite, and helpful. The afternoon tea was delicious and served with plenty of tea and prosecco. We never felt rushed and had a wonderful time, with some of us even ending up at the bar afterwards. It was a fantastic experience. Thank you!
Had a beautiful meal here on Saturday evening. I wasn't starving so had starters rather than starter and main. Potted shrimps were great, but another slice of brioche would have balanced the generous portion on shrimps better. The leek risotto was delicious. Tried a...bit of my partners chicken which was also very good. Had a very good bottle of wine good selection with helpful detail. Too full for dessert, so had liqueur coffees in the lounge area. We almost didn't dine at this restaurant, but we're glad we decided to give it a try. While the city or the seafront may not have a magical atmosphere on a cloudy evening, the views over the bay make up for it. The hotel building is charming and I especially enjoyed the original art deco features. The staff was friendly and the food was excellent. The restaurant looked nice when we first arrived, but really came to life once we started eating. I would highly recommend this place to others.
Poor afternoon tea with grey hair in scone. Service disappointing and rude apart from the ladies serving who made a fuss of our baby son. Offered a measly off by way of apology. Won't be back. Needs some TLC like the windows and doors...repairing and the curtains between bar and restaurant need washing. They are light in colour but black with dirt at the bottom.
