I was a bit unsure about trying Sushi Kai at first because of some mixed reviews, but my experience turned out to be great. I booked a table for Easter weekend via OpenTable and was impressed by both the service and the food. The fish was fresh, and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. It’s normal for new restaurants to get tough feedback early on while they work out the kinks. As a Tahoe local, I’ll definitely be back—don’t let the negative reviews discourage you! The fish was fresh and we liked the ambiance. I thinkit's easy for a new restaurant to get hard critics when they first open, because they need time to work out the logistics. I'm atahoe local and I will be back, do not let these few poor reviews stir you away. Special thank you to our server WILL who wasfantastic.
Slow service (under staffed, our guy was?t terrible but we were there on a Sunday and they had only one server), terrible food (seriously, every dish was disappointing. No flavor, someone needs to rethink the dishes), and terribly over priced for the quality of food. Environment and menu looked great, but after our meal there was just no redeeming quality for the waste of time and money. Skip, and head somewhere (anywhere) else instead.

Eating is terrible. I wish I could say I was exaggerated, but we went to sushi (here the name, sushi kai), and I can honestly say that it was the worst sushi I had in a restaurant. Also much too expensive for bad quality. I hope this review (and reviews to come) helps them to realize that they need to make a change.

As others have noted, the food was disappointing. The atmosphere was decent, but the sushi fell short of expectations. Given the high prices, it definitely wasn’t worth it.
Like the other reviews, the food was terrible. The environment was alright but the sushi was bad quality. For how expensive everything was, it wasn't worth it at all.
