MUST TRY WHILE ON BIG ISLAND! This was the best food I?ve ever had?I?ve had sushi all over the West and East coast, but never tasted anything like this before. The only sushi that my wife had comparable to this place is a restaurant she went to in Japan.The salmon sashimi melts in your mouth, the nama hotate is perfectly balanced, and the special role is an explosion of flavor.Also please try the thin sliced hamachi with truffle oil. To die for! I?m surprised to see ratings lower than 5 stars. The foodpresentation, the service, and ambience were PERFECT. Make a reservation because this place fills up quick!
The best sushi in Kona! If you are looking for fresh, authentic Japanese cuisine, Sushi Sam is the spot. We came here on vacation and ended up returning a second time because we couldn’t stop thinking about it! The sashimi is incredibly fresh, and the rolls are packed with flavor. Literally everything we tried was beyond delicious. Highly recommended! In my opinion, Sushi Sam is the top sushi restaurant in Kailua-Kona. The Toro is unmatched, and the uni is heavenly; the tempura is cooked to perfection. Each dish is presented with elegance and beauty. I always make sure to tip both the waitress and the sushi bar staff because the food is exceptional. I love taking my wife here when we want to treat ourselves. It’s a wonderful spot to enjoy delicious food and create lasting memories. I highly recommend it to anyone who values high-quality sushi and sashimi.
First of all, the decor is clean, elegant, and beautiful. Small and intimate setting. We got a reservation easily (2 at 7pm) and were seated immediately. Few but friendly staff. It's not a big menu, nor fancy, but there's options for everyone (except vegansprobably). Service is fast and great. And the food is some of the best I've ever had. Spicy Ahi Roll is AMAZING, tempura isperfectly fried, all the sushi is great. Expensive, yes, but well worth the money. 100% visit if you're in Kona!

I can't recommend this place enough—it definitely earns a full 5 stars! Visiting from NYC, I was excited to find such a hidden treasure. The fish is unbelievably fresh, prepared with incredible pride and attention, and you can genuinely taste the passion in every bite. The presentation and flavor are exceptional. It was so impressive that we came back for a second visit! While getting a table can be tough, the wait is completely justified.
I was looking for a place to eat and found this sushi place nearby the hotel I was staying in. I decided to dine here after reading good reviews on Google. The inside was clean and the waitress was friendly. But the food was okay. Maybe my expectationwas too high or I ordered the wrong dishes. It didn?t taste bad but I had a better one. This is based on the shrimp roll, notthe sushi as I don't eat raw fish.
Absolutely a fan of Sam’s sushi. Naomi and Yuki are always warm smiling welcoming. Amazing service and crazy delicious food! Ahi tataki and special roll all day long. What a wonderful experience! Although we had been to a much busier sushi spot in the village before, Sushi Sam provided a much more elegant ambiance. Every piece of nigiri and sashimi we tried was perfectly balanced in flavor, texture, and presentation, and the dishes from the kitchen were equally outstanding. I highly recommend this place!

I was recently in Kona Hawaii and had just finished my tattoo appointment and was starving. I came here to eat and let the beautiful lady choose my meal and it was amazing! Totally recommend this place and would definitely go back at my next visit!???? all staff were great hosts, super friendly, nice and clean place.
