Taco Cat offers authentic Mexican cuisine with a slight Asian twist at very reasonable prices and high quality. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the dishes we tried – the nachos were delicious and generously topped, the corn had a tasty combination of toppings, the raw tuna taco was fresh and light, the mushroom taco was full of flavor, and the Japanese chicken taco was crunchy and delicious. The only dish we were hesitant about was the beef pho taco, which was chewy and dry despite being presented beautifully like the rest of the food. We are looking forward to seeing their alcohol and dessert menus develop, which we believe will make the restaurant even better. It can be difficult to find good...
It's true, there is a grasshopper taco, also a pho taco and some unusual vegetarian choices as well. We stuck to tradition with the carnita, and also had the Japanese fried chicken. There is a good selection of spicy sauces and a number of starters (nachos, of course, but others as well) and salads. Service was very friendly. We went on a Tuesday and were pleased to discover that tacos are two for one on that day of the week. There's a well-stocked beer and wine store one minute up the street, $3 corkage. Would definitely try it again.
If you think you’ve tried it all when it comes to Mexican food in Melbourne, then think again. Tacocat is Windsor’s newest taqueria, serving Mexican-inspired street food but not as you know it. Tacocat is located at 118 High St, Windsor in the space formerly occupied by Korean café 9 ¾, just a block or two from Chapel Street. Step inside and you’ll find rustic style tables, an open view into the kitchen and a Day of the Dead inspired wall mural painted by Melbourne Graffiti artist, Awes, of local studio 90 degrees.
The soft shell crab taco was great, leaving a warm, flavorful taste in the mouth. However, the special kangaroo taco of the week was a standout and should be a permanent menu item! It was a work of art with a delicious blend of barbequed meat and citrus crumb that was clearly well thought out by the chef and team. Excellent experience, we had five courses starting with corn chips and guacamole, baked corn, and sweet potato wedges (TRY THESE). Ordered three tacos each, all were flavoursome with a great touch of fresh salsa and lime. The churros were nicely crisp on the outside while still soft inside.
