Tafelspitz 1876 is a small restaurant with a few tables on the outskirts of Düsseldorf. The interior of the restaurant is modern, but upscale, warm and intimate.They have 2 set menus, from which you can select different dishes in order to create your own menu and vary the number of courses.We ordered the mid-sized menu. All we had was really excellent. When I visited Tafelspitz the last time, I really enjoyed the modern, but focused cuisine. Unfortunately the place seems to have joined the club of restaurants aiming to celebrate their own artistry rather than providing an enjoyable dining experience. When the wait staff needs 5 minutes to explain a dish, chances are that it is too complex. Why does a dish need 10 different elements and a design to win contests when the different condiments distract from the main ingredient and do the opposite of enhancing the taste? Propably they think this is what is needed to win a 2nd star. But I'm not sure that it's a recipe to win customers, at least not us.To be fair, the food still is very good. How...
This restaurant is located outside the center of the city but is worth the trip.The food is creative, well thought of and offers interesting combinations. I selected the wine menu, which offered several pleasant surprises. The service is very pleasant and could explain all disches in proper english.Only the dessert whas a bit disappointing, built of too many ingredients and with an average presentation. The killer was a mint leaf on top which had nothing to do there, but came back as well on a more interesting second dessert.Despite that point I would recommand this place for its interesting chef.
This is not an over grand place to dine.Take a seat and enjoy several glasses off the "alt" beer Dusseldorf's finest.I really enjoyed their liver which you struggle to enjoy in the UK. The Brazilians drink lots of beer and puff cigaret smoke in your face in the central market in Bello Horizonta and add ladies fingers to their version which sounds like Figueroa. The version here adds onions and a cured pork.They have Lots of puds to choose from as well as the excellent strudel there was an open tart with plums on a frangipan base. Tafelspitz 1876 is an Austrian restaurant in a neighborhood east of tourist Dusseldorf. They offer a single tasting menu although you may choose to add one or two extra courses. Each course was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was attentive but low key. The meal was gourmet without attitude. It was a lovely evening and we had a table on the small patio in front of the restaurant which, in combination with the excellent food, made for a very pleasant evening and well worth the additional taxi fare to get there.
Supporting what others have said that this is an intimate dining experience where you know that there is great care as well as great creativity in the food. And, along with that comes a 'great' price. Certainly it costs but it was definitely worth it. We chose the average (4 course) meal, and that was quite sufficient and of course delicious. Service is discreet and excellent.
There is nothing what could be improved, a remarkable evening.The restaurant is more like a living room, nice and tiny. The service is excellent. The food is an adventure with new experiencing around every corner of the menu.It is certainly not cheap but again for the expereince worth the money.Just a small remark, it would have been nice to have met the chef
Chef Daniel Dal-Ben is super creative but what really makes him special is the fact that he has no airsDaniel creates very playful dishes and he has mastery over skilfully adding a touch of Oriental to lift the dish and yet remain true to its rootsI have been thrice to his restaurant and look forward to going there again in Nov 2016. This restaurant was. Great experience. We ordered the 9 course tasting menu and were quite happy. The service and decor are low key. This place is all about the food. It is a pleasant non-touristy stop to add to your schedule if in Dusseldorf. Not romantic spot great for business meeting.
