This is our 4th visit in just over a month, we travel from Loughton missing out on all the other curry restaurants, just to get to Tandoori Cottage. The food and service has always been excellent. The very pleasant new owner, took over the restaurant in September last year 2018. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable, old school, with seating booths on the right, regular tables on the left, white table linen and napkins. A good size menu with the old favorites along with specialty 's. We haven 't tried the starters yet, only the tasty crispy papadoms along with the chutney tray. Ordered a takeaway two weeks ago. Opened one container and struggled to identify its contents. The hard, black object resembling a small tree branch turned out to be fish! Had to use quite some force to break it open to discover that it was indeed cod, but not like I'd ever seen. It was grey, hard, dry and totally inedible. Rest of the meal gloopy, dry, quite tasteless and very badly cooked. Waste of £30 and hugely disappointing to my friend especially, as this was the first meal she hadn't cooked herself since lockdown.
Have been going here for years with my family or ordering takeaway... It is the best curry in chingford, however tonight we left without eating because it has gone down hill... Only 2 waiters and all they cared about is the christmas party. Waited 30 mins to order drinks and they even asked us if we wanted popodoms before hand... what resturant asks for starters before drinks... 40mins later after asking 3 times can we order and them telling us to wait we left... We will be back but hopefully they hire some more staff!
I hadn't been to this restaurant since I lived in the area, but my son treated us for Mother's Day. It seemed like they were short-staffed as we had to wait quite a bit, but the staff were very friendly. I usually don't have dessert, and after trying the ice cream sundaes, I won't be having them again. It seemed like they were pre-made and frozen in the glass, with fruit and Ferrero Rocher on top. As I am writing this review I must say how dissatisfied and disappointed I am trying this Indian dishes. I have ordered a take away on a Sunday evening that consisted of Butter Chicken and a portion of Pilau Rice. It is unbelievable sweet, please believe me this dish would have been ok as a dessert but not as a main dish. Called the restaurant back immediately to tell them and the o ly answer I got was “this is the way we do it” …. Very very disappointing.
Wow Garlic chilli chicken, Garlic and mushroom fried rice with garlic nann. Garlic overload and well worth it, I love a good curry and this is up there with the best I've had. Working in Chingford for another 4 nights and will most definitely be back. We did play musical chairs/ tables tho when we first got here, bench seat are ok if you want to be sat bolt upright! But that aside absolutely beautiful food Love it.
I decided to give an Indian takeout restaurant that I used to love another try while in the area, but I was very disappointed this time. The chicken was extremely dry and tough, the samosas were soaked in grease, and the food was only lukewarm when it was delivered. The sagaloo was still delicious as usual, but overall, we won't be returning to this restaurant. I can already feel the meal repeating on me.
There are a lot of Indian restaurants in Chingford but this is consistently good and I have been a customer for 20 years so know what I'm talking about! It's not as busy inside as it used to be as it seems like a lot of people use it as a takeaway but I eat here about once a month and I've never been disappointed and they will happily describe dishes for you if you're not sure what you fancy.
