Going up to Gurten was so much more than we expected. The view was spectacular, but even more important were the options for how to have fun once you got there. The expansive, lush grounds offered a summer toboggan run, which my husband and son enjoyed, a tower climb that offered unparalleled views of the region (and especially fun for photography enthusiasts), a wonderful playground for children, a water feature for kids of all ages to cool off in, walking trails, biking trails, places to sit on a blanket to enjoy a glass of wine and bits of cheese, and more. Tapis rouge is in a great spot looking over the city of Bern. It costs money to get to the top of the hill and then more money to pay for the restaurant. The restaurant is buffet/cafeteria style swiss food and it isn't bad. There are a few premade meals you can choose from or you can pick out items a la carte and pay 3.30 fr/100g of food. This isn't cheap and the food isn't great but it isn't bad either. The Bratwurst and Rösti tastes like the Fast food version of the same dish at an authentic swiss restaurant. If you are at gurten and hungry then this isn't a bad option. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here though.
Really good place to just sit, relax and watch the world go by, great bird-eye view of Bern from. Food is good, limited options with Buffet or Menu but good selection of Rosti, classic as well as with sausage. I will recommend it. Slightly overpriced compared to the city counterparts like Manor, Coop or Migros Buffer but the views make it fully worth it.
Extremely friendly staff especially if you are there during the speaking hours. The food and drinks are affordable and the place is friendly for families and individuals. During lunchtime and weekends, due to the many families with small children it can be packed a bit and occasionally loud so that according to your needs plan. Réservez une table maintenant
I had a dish of healthy and delicious salads for under 10 francs. Later I could not resist and went for a Caramel Chöpfli (a light flame) with a Latte Macchiato. I enjoyed it with a breathtaking view over the city. The bathrooms on the stairs were also clean on a busy day without waiting.
