Whenever we visit Smithfield, Taste of Smithfield is our go-to place for lunch. The food and service are consistently excellent. The restaurant is located on Main Street, and offers seating outside and inside. The open kitchen is clean and quiet (though busy). The main dining area is open with wood flooring and tables. A small bar area is situated near the entrance of the restaurant. We often order as a starter the trio of sweet potato biscuits that come with ham, molasses, and apple butter. This visit we enjoyed the Southern Pork Gent sandwich, which was a pork chop top with pimento cheese, and a bacon bourbon berry relish in a brioche bun. We got fried apples as a side dish. Smithfield in general is a very cute little town! I can 't believe that I 've never driven the hour to get here before. We opted to try this restaurant because it was conveniently located and we were starving. We were seated right away and service was good. The gal helping us seemed new, but she was very nice and did provide good service. Food-wise, the only thing that was better than mediocre was the fried green tomato appetizer. It was delicious. We also did enjoy the pigtail fries, but all of our entrees were very basic. The reuben was served on cold, barely toasted bread and had very little sauce. First time visiting, as I 've been back and forth to Smithfield over the years. While the food was delicious, the wait staff ruined the entire experience. It took 10 minutes for anyone to even LOOK over at the door. Then another five to be seated. No greeting what so ever. Just do you need high chairs? For our children. Waited another 15 minutes for them to play tag, and figure out who would take our order. Watched the manager leave the restaurant and go home for the night. Thankfully, the young man that waited on us, actually put effort in. I definitely WILL NOT eat there again! I was talked down to, as well as ignored, by my server. I did not get my appetizer the way I ordered it. My sandwich barely warm, and flavorless. When I asked to speak to the manager, I waited 10 minutes, then asked again. I was told, The manager doesn 't have time to speak to you. The following day, I called them, asked to speak to a manager. After waiting on hold for 8-10 minutes, I was again informed that the manager is too busy to speak with me. I feel that they apparently think that the people that pays their bills , are insignificant. One of our favorite places to dine in the downtown area. The food is amazing, especially enjoy the veggie burgers and Brussels sprouts made with Smithfield bacon. Great place for lunch and shopping in Smithfield area. The little shop has some great selections for taking home some snacks or as gifts for visitors to the area. Highly recommended.
The service is great and the staff is very friendly. The food is so tasty and the lunch menu has a lot of sandwiches, so it seems like there is something for pork lovers. The bacon is some of the best I have ever had and the pig tails (fries) are fantastic! We both left absolutely stuffed and still have lunch for tomorrow!
