Zero stars fallen from five stars. I much prefer writing five star reviews, which is my usual protocol. But not this time... I moved here back in August and this restaurant quickly became my favorite sushi place being new to the area. It's a small family owned business and I just remember Japanese lanterns and soothing music and delicious sushi as my first experience.Fast forward to yesterday when I was the only person dining in the restaurant because it was a bit off hours around 3 o'clock or so. The fish was good quality and preparation seemed great.The young man behind the counter sat down and was on his phone and not checking on our table, then delivered our Nigiri with a hair on it.We brought this to his attention and he took it off the bill. However with the amount of people working there both front and back of the small restaurant we would have thought he could have eyeballed our food and have them make another before bringing it out.A bit pricey for a strip mall. And they do not serve beer even though there is a Kirin flag in the window.
However, things took a turn when we tried the Ikura nigiri—it was so off that we had to spit it out. Initially, we thought it might just be an isolated incident, but when our rolls arrived, we found that all the fish tasted questionable, with some pieces even having a grayish hue. It made for a really unpleasant experience, and we ended up leaving most of our order untouched due to concerns about freshness.
I'm hoping this was just a one-time issue given the generally good reviews, but I felt it was important to share our experience.
This is hands down the best sushi place around. I love sushi and I 've tried all the best of OC and I still drive out of my way to go here.I 've eaten inside (pretty small, only a few tables) and I 've gotten platters and plates to go.My favorite is the kamikaze roll. It has black rice and it is unbelievably great. Also, the tempura sauce is amazing. Not sure how their sauce is so good.The woman who runs the front is the nicest and they have always been so helpful and accommodating.You won 't go wrong here fr!

I highly recommend Honsan Sushi! They use only wild-caught fish, always have fresh seafood, and are consistently busy. The interior is quite small, but the line for takeout orders is always long! It’s a family-owned restaurant, and you can really see how much pride they take in their work. I'm glad to support this family and I constantly crave their sushi rolls—they truly are the best in the area!
I had a lunch date with my son at a small restaurant that serves amazing sushi. The food was fantastic, especially the specialty rolls. My son has a shrimp allergy, and the staff overheard us discussing it. They kindly offered to prepare the roll we were interested in without shrimp. We will definitely be returning!
Great service from the moment we came in till we left. Unfortunately the rolls were so so. Sushi quality and size were really good.

Food quality has been going down and taste more fishy each time. Flavorless at times. I wouldn't recommend.
