Tavos Signature Cuisine

Having been raised in far West Texas, I judge most Mexican restaurants by the quality of their chili rellenos, and on this point Tavo 's is a definite win! Frankly, Tavo 's traditional chili relleno was the best I 've had in a long time. (Most restaurants in the MKE don 't even make them must be poblano supply issue...or something. : So why the 3 star rating, when I personally can 't fault the food. (I mean, my sopa carnitas and the guacamole were also excellent. One thing was my margarita. I order a gold margarita, and was pleased that it was made with a top shelf orange liquor. But for $14 I 'd expect actual lime juice, and what I got tasted like sweet sour mix. The second thing was my Frogette 's entree. She ordered the flautas, and what she got was a fajita plate loaded with zucchini and chicken that looked like it had been boiled rather than seared. Now, I get that a mistake might have been made...at the table...in the kitchen, but when my wife graciously accepts the mistaken order (especially when she hates zucchini you don 't put your foot down and insist, *3 times*, that the mistake was ours. My order was good enough that I 'm encouraged to return to Tavo 's, but on this first visit, it was definitely a mixed bag.

Unique, delicious food that is perfect every time! The service is fast and friendly. I highly recommend the Guacamole Azteca and the passion fruit mule. Shrimp tacos are also delicious!
