The A La Menthe

Many of the places in Vaison serve about the same food. However, this is one of the places that stood out with a unique menu and very good food and service. I had never eaten in a Moroccan restaurant before, but will try more now. We had Brochettes of beef and chicken that were delicious and served with lovely salads and a small sample of soup. Our wines were very good. The price was about the best we have seen in Vaison.

We were a family of 11 and occupied all the outside eating area. Despite the expected north African menu, the food was plain and overpriced. Portions were small even by French standards (eg. chicken tajine was a single drumstick) and the starters arrived at the same time as the mains. The most popular tagine had run out and the service was casual.

We found the place by chance off the main pedestrian street on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We had vegetarian couscous and tajine, both of which were great and were freshly made. The restaurant is family-run and the proprietors are very friendly and likeable. Will go back.

The tajines were authentic and, unusually, made with good, fresh ingredients. The service was good and it has an amusingly over-the-top 'Arab ' interior, but we ate on the little street terrace.

Simple and good menu. Food is good, but not great. Location is very quiet, but in a narrow road so it felt very warm on a hot July evening. A bit weird that they didn’t take credit card.
