We went to Alma pub as it was a nice sunny Saturday 9th September and they have a lovely garden, which is very clean. The lady at the bar was very welcoming and told us that it was cash only and advised us where to get the cash which was very helpful and not an issue. We bought our drinks and whilst paying this bar man came up, no hello, just said abruptly’ you can’t wear a baseball cap in here, ‘ as if I knew the rules. ‘ it’s because in case of crime,’. I took it off and the lady at the bar apologised that she forgot to mention it. We went to sit outside and when this man came outside I asked if the rules were written somewhere so people like us who were new to this pub would be aware but...
Whilst we are all entitled to an opinion, I am at a bit of a loss to know what to say about the review given from CJ1915 about The Alma. I was in the pub that evening and have been using the pub for decades, without any issues at all. The Alma is one of the South Easts great locals and for many years in the 80 's and 90 's, we used it for the Crayford and Sidcup Bobsleigh team meetings after our training sessions around Crayford Dog track. I went to the Alma back in June 2023 solo at the tail end of my London trip because I wanted to have a taste of a true local pub-restaurant. So many local pubs have been bought out by chains and I was looking for a real local experience. This pub was recommended to me as it is locally owned and has many regular local customers. I can honestly say that recommendation was spot-on. I was extremely happy to have had a locally made pie and chips for dinner and a nicely poured Guinness or two. We celebrated Mother’s Day with a lovely Sunday lunch as a family. The staff were incredibly friendly and cheerful, ensuring we were well taken care of. The food spread was impressive, featuring three meat options (I couldn't resist trying all three!) along with a fantastic variety of vegetables, and there was no shortage of those either. We were offered “seconds,” but we decided to save room for dessert instead. There were at least six dessert options, and you could indulge in more than one. I appreciate when I dine out and leave feeling satisfied, without the need to grab a takeaway on the way home, and The Alma certainly delivered in that regard. Had a lovely time at this pub, which is located a few minutes walk from the local train station. It was the vinyl 'soul/funk/motown etc ' sessions, a lively crowd of dancers were having a great time. The bizarre thing (in a good way) was a private event also being held in the rear function room, you wouldn 't have guessed it though, two lots of music, but you couldn 't hear the private party. A nice exterior with a smart interior makes this pub very welcoming, the garden was great as well. This is a proper gem tucked away in a side road of Sidcup ... go try!
I visited the Alma for the first time yesterday, as my friends hosted an event in the fiction room to raise money for charity in support of my upcoming dementia café. The venue is absolutely beautiful—located quietly in the back, it would be an excellent choice for any event. The staff were friendly and courteous, and they went above and beyond to help us. Overall, we had a fantastic time, and we can't thank the Alma enough. A special thanks to all the staff for creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. - Lizzie
My friends and I drinking this pub every Thursday evening. I was disgusted that the two landlords told us to relinquish the premises at 8:25 when we were having such a wonderful social evening. I am disgusted with them I am shocked they think it is good management of a public house, in my 75 years I’ve never come across anything. So disgraceful I am surprised you’ve lasted this long. Well I honestly can’t understand the few negative reviews I have seen on here. All I can say is that we had a great evening at an event here with exceptionally lovely food, and 5 stars is the minimum we could have given .Great staff and a lovely atmosphere. The pub obviously has some policies but it’s up to customers to respect these. I think it’s a real find and a well run venue.

If you have Never been to The Alma Pub Sidcup your missing out!! Remembrance Sunday Nov 23 Monthly Roast Dinner Turkey, Beef, Pork, Stuffing, Cauliflower cheese, Parsnips, Carrots/Peas and of course Yorkshire pudding! And delicious homemade puddings part of the price! The pictures don’t do the food justice!
