Even for a cafe, the menu is limited and uninspiring. For a Saturday night meal the burger seemed our best choice .... an untoasted bun, barely warmed square of cheese, and long strips of tough cabbage. The queuing procedure to order and pay is a mess and, because it is beyond slow, the queue ends up obstructing the entrance, and new comers have no idea what is going on.What has happened to table numbers so the staff aren't walking around with food and drink, asking diners what they have ordered? The Arts Cafe is attached to the Arts Centre theatres. I initially thought it was just a coffee shop but it's somewhat more substantial than that, with a limited but still comprehensive menu and good selection of wines. Prices are a little over the average but it's still a good spot for a drink and and a bite to eat before or after a show. As one would expect, it can get very busy as a theatre empties, which can make ordering a slow process. This situation is compounded by ignorant people who spend their time in the food line chatting to each other rather than determining what they wish to order, resulting in further delays at the ordering point and frustration for the patrons standing behin...
Serving a summer menu at present and we selected the Spiced Slow Cooked Lamb on Mediterranean vegetables and feta. It was also Gluten Free and cost $26. A very good choice. We both selected the same menu item and both really enjoyed the very tender lamb with the level of spice just right. Will certainly return. We enjoyed a glass of white wine with our meal and finished with coffee. A very pleasant dining experience. Staff very friendly helpful and obliging
We Really enjoyed our visit to the arts cafe. There was live music playing on a Monday evening which surprised us. The food was pretty good and the general atmosphere was awesome. The arts centre next dope has loads of stuff on all the time too, art house films, theatre, arts etc.I've always driven past the arts centre and not really stopped by, I'm glad I did! We like having a pre-preformance meal and drink at the Arts Cafe before attending the evening show. Quality, price and ambience are all very satisfactory and the staff are friendly and efficient. Because the patronage is busy before the shows, it's good to come early and be a little patient with the service.
We phoned the day before and booked a table before for the performance, good thing as it was booked out on the night. The staff were good and recommended a time to arrive, on arrival the staff were friendly and the food was first class giving us a great start to an enjoyable evening.
The menu ranges from snacks to main meals .All are very good value and well presented .It is wise to book your table if you want to eat before a show especially on weekends .Staff are first class .
The menu at this restaurant is not huge but there is a lovely variety of dishes and they are really delicious. Staff are friendly and efficient. . We especially enjoyed the soup
