Greek in a mountain, resort town of Banff!Who woulda thunk it would be so good?!I read the other Yelpie reviews, and am happy to report that we enjoyed our meal too.Mom and I weren't starving so we shared a few dishes. Mind you... this place is a bit pricey, so if you're looking for cheap eats... .this is not the place.We ordered 1 appetizer, 1 salad, 1 entrée and 2 glasses of wine and our total plus tax and tip was about CAD$100.Eggplant dip - Savory with a bit of tang. If you didn't know this was eggplant, you could easily pass it off as a creamy dip. ha ha! It was served with warm pita triangles. I spent a few days looking forward to eating in this restaurant after a window of opportunity arose.I ordered a lamb Souvlaki Pita and was quiet disappointed with it. Very little lamb. Almost non-existent. Very cold over all. Very dry over all. Not what I have grown to expect at this restaurant. I suspect a change in ownership as I have been to this restaurant many times and given many praise each time. Appetizers, including the dolmades and spanakopita were not bad, but not like they used to be. Used to be better. There was nothing wrong with the tzatziki. We ordered Souvlaki in Pita which comes with a side salad. Could not taste any tzatziki sauce and asked for some in a bowl to flavor the very bland order. When the bill came they charged $3 for approx. 2 tablespoons of the sauce which should have been free of charge. Our guests from Australia ordered a salad which the waiter said would be a Greek salad, but he brought a salad with rice and other ingredients. I showed him my side dish of tomatoes, feta, etc and told him that this is what they wanted. His reply "that's not what they ordered" Bottom line, this is the second and last time I eat at this way overpriced, under quality place.
We went here for the Tuesday evening dining, Greek dancing and entertainment, and had such a great time ! Moussaka was excellent. Service was top notch. Our son had a seafood dish with mussels etc and he loved it too. Will definitely go back next time we are in town. Tip for you.... make a reservation for the Tuesday evening. Entertainment started at 8:30 and we arrived for 8:00. Be sure to get up and dance! Thank for Balkan for a wonderful family memory!
If you are up for mediocre greek food priced as gourmet, this is the place for you. Not to mention the service. Trip advisor's reviews are shockingly good for this place. Any fast food gyro place makes much better food for a fraction of the price. The bread was good. Meats were all over done. The 'greek salad' was nothing but a tasteless assortment of lettuce and tomatoes.
