The Barleycorn Inn

Our working group from a local church have lunch out a couple of times a year always book a table here. Due to the pandemic this was the first time since we’d met up for lunch. The menu is much less varied than...previously, and although the staff were pleasant enough the atmosphere of the place was fairly dead. Whereas the food previously was generous, interesting and home-cooked, today it was indifferent, bland and disappointing. The chips were oven cooked, and tasteless with even the little overcooked potato fragments that lurk in the bottom of the freezer bag being served up. The ‘crispy’ batter on the fish had been cooked at too high a temperature the small pot of peas were not even drained properly. The pate appears to come in pre-moulded portions, and despite specifically asking for no raw onion it was served in the salad garnish. Needless to say we will be looking for somewhere else to eat in future.

Had a terrible experience at this pub. Only part of the food order was brought out of the child meals). Two of the waitresses said it would be on its way, the landlord then accused us of not ordering them. The food finally...came and the children ended up eating hours later. We decided to eat and go as didn’t want to stay so we paid up. As we went to leave the landlord came running out of the pub accusing us of not paying in front of everyone!! Had to show the receipt as proof! He didn’t even apologise very rude man!

We came across the barleycorn on a drive searching on Google maps and we’re so glad we did! A beautiful quirky little pub where we were welcomed and seated as soon as we walked in! We both had the meat Roast and everything was...perfect! I wish I’d got the names of the lovely ladies who served us as they made us feel at home straight away! We will definitely be back for another visit very soon!

Staff are friendly, efficient and polite. The food was amazing. We all had the steak and red wine pie (one of the specials) which was delicious. Would even say it was the best one I’ve ever had. Tasted fresh and home made. Would definitely recommend!!

Excellent food, with a homely feel. Friendly atmosphere and truly an old feel to the pub. Recommend a visit to try the chefs food.
