Ordered 2 pints of ale and was served 2 pints with a very lage dollop of froth in each glass. I asked if the pints could be 'topped up ' and I received the answer from one of the bar maids: they are within spec . The other barmaid hid herself away when I asked for the pint glasses to be topped up. Reluctantly, the barmaid that was 'educated ' on the imperial pint specification, went through the motions of topping up the pints without actually topping them up. I accept that a small head of froth adds to the aesthetic appearance of a pint of beer, but, at the end of the day, customers are paying for an imperial pint and not contributing to the increased profits made by the pub. We ordered two meals, waited a while but we saw them come out with our food at the bottom part of the lock at the cafe, didn’t bother looking for us and we waited 30-40 mins for our food and I had to go up and ask where it was. They brought it back out Stone cold so I asked for it to be re heated, the steak was chewy and had been microwaved when they came back with it. Staff were alright but the whole place is just unorganised. It's not very often this happens but we arrived as a family of 5 having a mixture of starters, mains and puddings and every single meal was amazing. Portion size was very generous across all courses. We had 2 starters of chicken wings and calamari which came with a lovely mustard style dip and 5 adult mains, mine being the lamb which tasted fresh and homemade and my father in law stated the sticky toffee pudding was the best he had tasted and my teenage children thoroughly enjoyed the creme brulee. Came in for lunch the lady who seated us couldn't be arsed to come back see if we wanted any drinks had to ask another waitress who was lovely by the way after 10mins of being there the gf had been scrubbed out but the waitress then told us that they could make certain things so when we asked for the bill they fetched it over but didn't come back for payment we had to ask if we could pay Fantastic place

Lovely location overlooking the lock. Food reasonable nothing special Service not that friendly didn't really feel that welcome. Smells like it needs a good clean. Outside terrace has tables but you have to order at the bar to have food served here. Very nice on summer's evening.
Just popped in for a drink and sat out on the veranda but only to listen to some extremely loud music and some out of awful singing from the kitchen. If we’d come for a pleasant romantic visit I’d rather hav gone to a Toby!!
Cracking place for a bite to eat and drink. Staff were great along with the service. Don't miss out my first time. I will be returning.
Good food and a nice pub, however it has the worst beer in Middlewich unfortunately, such a shame as we would visit more often.

Great atmosphere.Great food. Idyllic location. Friendly and welcoming staff. Properly dog friendly. Met some lovely dogs here.
Called in for a beer! But the food looked fab! Especially the fish and chips. We will be back.
