I rang to book and was offered a small table which I said was fine. When we sat down the table next door was vacant and lunch service was coming to an end. About ten minutes after we sat down a staff member sat at the large table and ate her lunch. No big deal but a poor start. We shared a pate which was very good and the rustic breads with olive oil and balsamic. The olive oil was dreadful and the balsamic seemed stuck to the bottom of the dish. Disappointing but again o big deal. I ordered the crab cakes, as soon as the meal arrived I could see I would be disappointed. The crab cake looked like it had been deep fried five times. It was dry and very poor really. My wife had the goats cheese...

A red plaque by the entrance informs visitors that this pub has featured in an episode of 'Midsomer Murders '. Set in an idyllic location amongst the narrow lanes of Burnham Beeches, and not the easiest pub to find, one can readily visualise this pub in the TV series. Internally it 's a cosy, characterful venue with charming young staff. The signage indicates it is a Brakspear 's pub and two of the three handpumps offer ales branded with that name (the Breakspear pub company ceased brewing itself many years ago) whilst the third offers a changing guest beer. The main menu focuses mainly on good quality but fairly straightforward bar meals whilst the specials boards offer some more interestin...

We visited this pub for the first time half way round a walk through Burnham Beeches. Muddy boots welcomed and a log fire awaited us. Such a warm welcome by bar staff who showed us to our table although we were a little early. Three of us ordered the fish pie and a fourth the local sausages with mashed potato and onion gravy. Fish pie was absolutely delicious and piping hot with a selection of fresh vegetables. Sausages with mashed potatoes and onion gravy was also excellent and a generous portion. Although the dessert menu looked very interesting we were too full to sample it. Coffee was taken and was served piping hot. Great walk with a new found country pub. Can’t wait to next visit.

We visited here while we were down visiting family who live literally 5 minutes from here. My first question was why haven’t we been here before. Lovely country pub with a very warm welcome from both the staff and the owner, who took the time to speak to us as he finished for the day. They all clearly enjoy working there. Food was fantastic, big portions, well prepared by the chef, who obviously take a lot of pride in his work. I would reccomend the pies, or Cajun chicken burger or the fish and chips. We will definitely be back again when we next visit. Thank you very much for making us feel welcome.

Cant rate this high enough! From our arrival the team here were on point, getting us seated, drinks, menu and then orders. The pub was really busy but the staff didn't miss a beat, friendly and attentive throughput even when it was getting busier. The food was great and plentiful. Was a throughly enjoyable Sunday lunch and I can understand why it was bustling the whole time. Well done to the staff great job and will definitely come back

So disappointed. A lovely warm summer evening so decided to eat outside but there was a terrible sewage smell. We tried 3 different tables in different parts of the garden but we still got it so to eat out there was out of the question. We hope this is a temporary thing as we love it here and with the summer just starting. We went inside to eat , the food was ok but the smell put a damper on what should have been a super evening.

Wow!!! Lovely country pub that has been in Midsomer Murders no less. Never had such good pub food, it was excellent as was the service and the hosts very friendly. I had moules frites, friends had fish grill, crab cakes and a delicious chicken dish. Dog friendly, relaxed and very comfortable. Lovely interior. I’d travel a long way to come back here.

Simply the very best of pubs, the food is always truly delicious. The staff is friendly, efficient, more importantly they smile from the heart. The surroundings and garden are beautiful and the pub is comfortable, very tastefully decorated. I cannot recommend it enough whether it is with friends, family or simply on your own with a book.

The recent shining reviews are spot on, cannot fault the pub at all. some had crabcakes, some had chicken, both were very well prepared and delicious. Portions were just right for us and service was impeccable. A lot of pubs could learn from this one. Just a shame that we don't live closer.
