I chose to give a five star review for nostalgia’s sake and because this place has all the potential in the world! That said, this place is really a mess. Once known for epically kind staff, the staff is now comprised of mostly uninterested workers, who can’t even bother with a “thank you” and “hello” when you’re ordering. Once a prime community hang out, it is now dead most afternoons. I can’t help but think that some of the wonky vibes are due to the general decline of the atmosphere in the place. Long ago, this cafe replaced an equally cozy, but filthy and unkept cafe. Years later, Brothers K feels just like the old one did. Go to sit down and find dirty, rocky beat up tables and chairs,...
I go here like once every two months hoping for a better experience but I’m sadly disappointed. The coffee is inconsistent and not the best. The service seems to be good if you’re a regular. I ordered a hand pie and waited about 15 mins when the asked if I needed something else. They forgot to warm it up so I waited an additional 10 minutes after I told them. They then hand me a hit hand pie in a wax sleeve which I almost burned my hand on. Staff is too busy gossiping then being friendly and doing there job. It wasn’t busy and no one was in front of me in line.
The coffee here is good, and the layout is nice. Most of the staff are quite friendly. However, it's in serious need of an upgrade. The bathrooms are quite dirty, the bathroom doors have stains everywhere and the place really needs cleaning up and painting. The internet is woeful too, and when I have complained, they really don't seem to care. In this day and age of remote working, they really need to provide better internet. I have given up and just use my hotspot. The outdoor area is very nice, apart from the persistent harassment from beggars.
You already have a dedicated clientele. Why not partner with a local baker in Evanston or elsewhere to create some delicious treats for your coffee enthusiasts? This place was buzzing with energy after the Bros took over, but now it feels more like a shadow of its former self. Please step up your game. The coffee and espresso is excellent! The staff is great and service is fast. They recently started serving Do-Rite donuts, which are amazing. Atmosphere is laid back with neighborhood joint vibe. Good outdoor seating. Italian sodas are great! Not a frilly coffee shop (Evanston has plenty of those), but it's the best value town and staff and regulars are family.
The most neighborly place in the area. As a recent grad, I realized how many special memories this place holds for me. It’s a great place for reading, meeting up with friends or simply enjoying some personal time. I hope one day my kids will get to experience the comfort and cosiness of this place and PEOPLE.Food: 5/5
