I was in yesterday morning with a friend and had the worst experience in all my time going to Philz. The girl who took my order was really nice but sadly that is where the good service ended. We ordered two large coffees (no food) and spent the next 20 mins watching all the people who ordered after us receive their drinks before us. Once my name was finally called only one of my drinks was done and the other still being made. Both drinks were NOT prepared to specifications, which I could've looked passed but the drinks were also extremely watered down. Mine also contained coffee grines making it impossible to enjoy. As our adventure in Santa Monica continued, my parents found themselves in need of a second caffeine fix late in the morning. After navigating past trolls and lizard creatures on the 4th Street and Wilshire Boulevard, we arrived at Philz Tavern. Discovering that this tavern had its roots in San Francisco, we decided to step inside. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, but what truly stood out was the coffee. We opted for the cold brew to beat the heat, and it was just perfect. Will we come back? Without a doubt.
Must try the Mint Mojito. You can taste the fresh flavor of mint, at the same time, you can also can feel the freshness of the coffee with bit of sweetness and bubble in your month. Philz has a specially way to brew and make the coffee to let you tastes the true flavor in the coffee beans while avoid the bitterness or sourness in the beans. So far I still can't find the same flavor either in pour over, espresso or brew coffee. Philz is so unique.
Coffee is good but the customer service is awful. I and a few customers are lining up at the counter and the two people working there just completely ignored us for like 5 minutes doing their own thing even when they saw us. One girl was mopping the floor and she rather let the customers wait and couldn’t bother saying a “be right with you”. Are they really paid too low to be polite? Réservez une table maintenant
I remember Philz as a place where their coffee felt almost intoxicating—I'm not exaggerating! It's incredibly strong and powerful! If you enjoy bold coffee, this is definitely a five-star spot for you. However, for me, it was a bit overwhelming. That said, it was very delicious! It's also a great place for students to study!
