Rated as 3* because I've just been to the dirtiest gents toilets in York. My god, were they bad? ... Filthy taps and sink, floors soaking, troughs backing up, cobwebs everywhere. I usually come here every time I'm in York and like the beer but this time I was disgusted (no, I didn't report to staff because they should be doing hourly toilet checks and this hasn't just happened in the last few hours/days) Please management... get a grip cos otherwise, it's a great pub with good beer
Whenever we come to York we like to visit this pub. You can either relax with a drink or have a meal whichever you fancy. I was looking forward to the Butternut Squash Risotto which I had last year and was disappointed that they’d removed it from the menu I guess I was foolish for thinking that they wouldn’t change it.
Great place. Nice venue for something bigger than lunch. Bar menue is wonderful. Had the best Whitby mussels in creM sauce ever, so tasty. Sirloin steak cooked to perfection. Nice selection of beers and ciders as well as other spirits. Cosy place to sit, rest and enjoy a lovely meal. Thumbs up!
Had enjoyed a cold beer earlier in day so went back for an informal dinner … Friendly staff comfortable surroundings good choices… Bar staff Patti helpful serving us food and drinks to our table. Very enjoyable evening. Recommend the fish n chips Réservez une table maintenant
This small pub in a fantastic location is excellent. The staff were fantastic and attentive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely. I would definitely recommend it.

Excellent Sunday nut roast dinner with very friendly service in a cosy pub. The food was fresh, very tasty and the best vegetarian roast in York!
