The Fossgate Social

Cool laid back coffee shop and bar located on one of the most culinary interesting streets in York, Fossgate. Very relaxed atmosphere, plenty of comfortable seating, somewhere you could easily spend some quality time. We only had time for a coffee which was served with a biscuit but because staff weren't sure whether they were vegan gave us a dark chocolate instead. Soya and oat milk are available with no extra charge. The menu has clearly labelled vegan options including a soup of the day which is always vegan, some sourdough bread toasties with vegan options and pancakes which are vegan as standard. The first few times I went here 2017/2018, I was happy with my avocado on toast brunch, even if it is a bit expensive and a little oily. However the last few times I’ve been they haven’t even had that option. They had ready made sandwiches which the staff would grill at the bar, none of which were vegan. Really nice atmosphere, good coffee and alcoholic drinks, but I wouldn’t go for food.

I went here hoping to get a yummy brunch. Not having looked at the menu at all because I was in a new town but seeing as they has vegan options on the description I thought give it a go. They had one vegan brunch option avo on toast which is my life but that was it. You can get sides with it like mushrooms if you want. Just overall a little disappointed really. This is an excellent place to socialise over a coffee or alcoholic beverage and I've always liked the staff and relaxed atmosphere whenever I've visited. Food wise, the options are quite limited and basic and personally it's not somewhere I would recommend for food, especially when there are so many vegan cafes nearby.

we also have opening times, etc. checked for travel advisers, but when we are there, they said that eating was not started until 10.00. they had only one salad and a pancake to choose from. Maybe better for a coffee/drink? Réservez une table maintenant

Very nice cafe bar. Great to see they have vegan labelled options. It's in a beautiful location and there is a great friendly atmosphere inside. Have only sampled the coffee with soya milk which was very nice.

We also checked opening times etc. on trip advisor but when we got there they said food didn't start untill 10.00am. They only had one salad and one pancake to choose from. Maybe better for a coffee/drink?
