The General - Eatery and Supplies

I've been a regular of The General since it first opened. The food is creative and high quality, great ambience and amazing staff usually. The staff who've been there since the start are superstars!However, the past couple months I've noticed a drop in customer service due to a couple of new staff members. They don't seem very experienced nor considerate of customers. In the last few weeks alone this one newish employee has been overly loud and obnoxious. She talks so loudly (mostly about herself with other staff) that it interrupts our dining experience. Meanwhile other staff are working their assess off. We were staying nearby at Dulwich Hill, so we walked because parking is limited. The General is situated in a strip of interesting shops (mainly eateries). Booking was tight for a Friday so we had to sit outside on a cool night - but it was mild with the protection of a hedge and partaking a glass of pinot noir to warm us up. We went for plates to share ie sourdough bread, corn baquettes, lamb shanks, ancient grains salad, chicken pie plus a hamburger for my son. All plates were amazingly tasty. I really loved the ancient grains salad, but top marks to the chef for an outstanding array of food. Service was pleasant and prompt. very busy place, got a table easy enough though. corn fritter burger was absolutely yum, but way too small to count as a full breakfast as it comes with no sides at all. smashed avo with dukkah was really good too and a bit more than the burger but not much. service could have been friendlier but was ok. coffee alright.

Been here 5 times now, several times for an evening share plate, The food is delicious, I especially like the salads. The beef just melts in the mouth. Loving happy hour where the burgers are the best in town. Service is attentive and the staff knowledgeable. Réservez une table maintenant

Small but inviting restaurant that packs people through the doors. It offers relatively simple meals but they are all genuinely delicious. Great dishes to share. Friendly service and lovely atmosphere. A truly great local eatery.

This is the place that does great coffee. It's my everyday coffee. You can have a table in or take way. I usually take away and have coffee on the go. If you like coffee, you will love this,

This place gives off a very hipster vibe. From the jars of preserves and sauces, to the high chairs and common tables in the back. I have only visited here
