The Golden Cannon has the worst atmosphere of any pub in Brighton. I visited on a Saturday night and was met with the ‘Friends’ theme tune followed by 5ive’s ‘Keep On Movin’ playing loudly. If the pub had been packed with people dancing ironically, it might have been amusing, but it was almost empty. The barmaid seemed even more bored than we were. The music was so loud that we couldn’t have a conversation. When we politely asked the barmaid to turn it down or play something more suitable, she said her manager doesn’t like her taking requests.
