From the decor to the music, The Hot Chicken Project has been well-planned and well-executed. The shelves behind the bar are neatly stacked with a variety of beers, spirits and wines. It's a lovely display. The chalkboards are also well done and easy to read.The menu is simple. Pick a protein, pick your spice level, pick a side, and add on sauces, sides and extras as it tickles your fancy. I chose the tenders with medium spice, shoestring fries, blue cheese sauce and a lemonade.The chicken was cooked to perfection, beautifully crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. We went on Friday night for the first time to The Hot Chicken Project. We had walked past the premises a lot, it has been always busy and we were wondering forever how a glorified KFC (after all the project serves mainly chicken) could be so popular. So on Friday night we decided to investigate. The very small galley style bar/restaurant was very busy. We were given a wonderful welcome by Laura and Josh and their positive attitude to customer service set the evening apart. A friend took me here and raved about it. The food is overpriced and everything just tastes like salt. No flavour in the fried chicken wings and very messy to eat. $16 for three wings and a tiny bit of coleslaw and a random piece of white bread. When wings are $3 a kilo? No thanks.Menu is also confusing and bar stools are very sharp and not comfortable. Staff were nice. Good atmosphere and free water is always a bonus. Wouldn't go there again.

So, the Hipster culture gets its share of pokes but frankly when it dishes up little treasures like this I'm not sure why. Whoever's responsible for making Southern Fried Chicken cool and fun to eat deserves sainthood. Keep it simple, keep it fun - chicken & chips and a couple of beers. Thank you world. The Burger Royale in medium with shoestring fries along with one of their delicious crisp white wines - YUM YUM YUMMMM!!!! Great little spot for lunch / dinner, great atmosphere, staff are super friendly and YUMMY CHICKEN! A must go!!!

So nice for something different, took a little while for the food to come out, but it was super hot, crispy & yum!! Organic wines are a nice, but unusual touch seeing it's a friend chicken shop, but this is what makes it quirky!

Stopped in Friday night to enjoy the little Malop st atmosphere. Staff were great and chicken was not the grease I expected, though still bemused by the the giant chicken wings. Are there giant chickens, just wondering!

The only fried bird I have previously tasted has been the colonels finest. I never knew how delicious a chicken meal could be until ordering the dark with greens. Terrific value and will return again. Réservez une table maintenant

Plenty of chicken choices, lots of burgers, a good range of sides and sauces...what more could you want. Great food, fantastic vibe, it ticks all of the boxes.

Over rated. Bought a side of potato salad and was frozen - could only eat some of it. Have been here a few times, but each time have been consistently bad.
