The service and ambiance were 5 stars but a few items were not worth the price point. Plus the milk/cream wasn’t brought out with or before the tea, so one star removed. The gender neutral restrooms were lovely and clean, it’s how they are in Europe, floor to ceiling stalls with no gaps, lite beach restrooms. very private except the communal hand washing station. The Gen Mai Cha and Earl Grey were our favorites and the Strawberry, Saba, Whipped Black Pepper Cream Cheese sandwich. I went with my husband on a member preview day before it opens up again at the end of the month. I love the changes that were made to the building and all the extra seating that was added. There was an extensive list of teas to choose from and you got the sandwiches and sweets to eat. I had the pear tea, which was great. They do not have the buffet like before. There are more sweet than savory items to eat, but they will let you substitute when you order. The price has doubled from what I remember. The rose garden tea room is so cute! Great place to get tea service for afternoon high tea. They have a set menu that includes scones, finger sandwiches, and petit four desserts. I highly recommend getting a reservation as they are always very busy and can’t always accommodate walk ins. They have options for vegetarians. This is a great place for a date or to take a mom, grandmother or little girl. Realize that this is located INSIDE the garden area at the Huntington library, which requires a fee unless you are a member. Make a day or afternoon of it to make the entrance fee worth it, which it is. The gardens are beautiful and there are a few art exhibits as well.
Although I’ve lived very close to this place for three years, I finally visited it and it has quickly become one of my favorite bars in the city. As a self-proclaimed wine enthusiast, I can say that they offer some outstanding wines. Instead of a conventional menu, the bartenders are exceptionally knowledgeable; you just tell them what kind of wine you feel like, and they’ll provide you with suggestions. The only downside is the parking situation, but that’s just part of life in Los Angeles.

The food was incredible, and the gardens are breathtaking! They provide a vegan menu if requested, and the place itself is beautiful. However, the service left much to be desired from start to finish, especially given the cost of their tea service. While I'm grateful for the chance to experience it once, I won't be going back, even as a Huntington member.
The Rose tea room will be open for reservations 24 may 2023. The rebuilt space has more space. There is the original Rose room, the new Herb room facing the herb garden the east terrace and outside the herb room. The new entry and waiting area have orange crate labels and tea pots on display. The food and tea are excellent, if you like English tea.
Be aware that the only restroom is for both men and women. (It is not a private one stall type) It was awkward to say the least to have a man in there, not to mention the fact that he left the lid of the toilet up and forgot to flush. No one would use that stall. The actual tea was delicious, but restroom overshadowed the experience.
My wife and I had an amazing experience! The food, service, and ambiance were all exceptional. Our server, Kelan, was absolutely outstanding—be sure to ask for him when you go. The only downside was the bathroom situation; sharing the facilities with the opposite gender was a bit uncomfortable.

Serene and one of the Crown Jewels of the Southern California region. It’s a bit expensive but you won’t be disappointed. Excellent attention and pivot during the current epidemic.
