This joint makes rules up then breaks them at the same rime. My wife and I ,with our 2 small dogs were informed by staff on 2 occasions under no circumstances were dogs allowed in the restaurant at the rear of the building. After what we witnessed last night we will not be returning. We were staying nearby ,on a glamping site where a couple of large families,together with children and dogs were running wild upon their arrival. For peace we retired to this restaurant for a nice meal and a few drinks,where the staff served us in the bar area. Responding to owner of this bar asked politely to young waitress policy on dogs in restaurant also when owner comes barging out of food preparation area and gets the waitresses all together in the coffee area to tell them off rather loudly about the underage person (14 years old) then maybe a back area away from customers would have been more appropriate. Deleting reviews off fb page when she doesn’t agree doesn’t show bar in true light as 5 star looks as if it’s excellent which clearly isn’t , a quick word on the night explaining situation would have been a better approach and would have probably had a different perspective to what was going on that night but no
We have had several meals at the Melbourne Arms now since Christmas (5/6 visits? . Every single meal has been spot on from starters through to deserts. The food has always been excellent and the 'specials ' menu changes regularly so there is always someting new and a bit different to try. Definatley one of the best places to eat around the wider Pocklington area now and we 've been to most of them. Lovely location for a walk down the canal or just to sit outside with a beer and watch the world go by. A firm favourite of ours now.
We came relatively early and we were told by the young waitress that they had ran out of a long list of food on the menu. The starters were nice but when I asked for more bread they didn’t have that either. A couple of us then had burger seeing as there was no chicken, no pastry for the pie and they had also ran out of a couple of other dishes. The burger was very mediocre and disappointing. It wasn’t busy and the starters took ages to come out. There was only one choice of red wine. All in all a very disappointing trip.

We were at allerthorpe for a small getaway and saw this pub on Facebook. Not only was the food amazing but so was the atmosphere. Nothing but positive vibes in this village pub. Furthermore it’s so nice to see a village pub that serves amazing quality food that has something for everyone rather than some pubs in this country which have lost their way with frozen food and a microwave. A must visit if you’re in the area.
We called in here just as it opened. Whilst it was fully booked, it was warm enough to sit outside. We had the beef and chicken Sunday Lunches and they were excellent. Easily the best Sunday Lunch I've had for a long time, mine was the chicken.
Beautiful pub clean cosy and very friendly welcoming staff , lunch was delicious and great portions to . Absolutely worth a trip out for the comfort , food and friendly banter . 5 star from us
Absolutely amazing food. The service was outstanding. All the Staff who served us made sure the experience was perfect. Well done to all, especially the lady behind the bar x
