We have been looking for a good Chinese take away for as long as we can remember. The Mulan was recommended by our good friend Miles, so we ordered a take away last night (14/04/23). My wife and I both agreed that it was the best Chinese food we have ever tasted! The king prawn in ginger and onions was to die for, as was the chicken chow mien and sweet and sour chicken. It is collection only, which we didn't mind as it is near to where we live and the staff serving were lovely, polite and attentive. I have been coming to this restaurant for many years now and I always find the food to be good value and enjoyable. The atmosphere has never been anything special and the staff have always just been there to serve you and that's about it. We went for lunch and quite frankly this will be my last visit. The plates were not clean! The starters we had of spring rolls were cold and tasteless. The mains weren't too bad but considering 4 of us picked egg fried rice we got 1 scoop each by the waitress and no more. This review is simply about the food. The service was friendly and efficient. Having been many times to The Mulan as a post Cinema treat we were looking forward to the usual high standard. Unfortunately, the food e.g, salt and pepper ribs are largely bone and fat and the main course chicken dishes are now tough and tasteless. Have they forgotten how to 'velvet ' meat? The prices are also getting silly. Can no longer recommend and will not be returning unless the food improves.
My husband and I decided on a set meal (think it was the Deluxe one), it was absolutely delicious and so much food we took the rest away. We were going to add on soup but glad we didn’t. It’s such good value for the amount and quality of food. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. There is a two course meal at lunchtimes which looks incredible value, so we will try this. Can highly recommend and it was the best prawn toast I’ve ever had.

Food was amazing and came out very quickly. Really decent range of stuff to choose from. Staff were brilliant and very nice. Nice and spacious our table for 8 was really big with a handy lazy Susan in the middle (really cool! . Very reasonably priced. Generous portion sizes also. Will 100% return : definitely found a new favourite restaurant and take away
This is a great place for Cantonese cuisine. We ordered salt n pepper squid and the honey sesame chicken starter. Both were superb. For the adventurous mix the 2 starters together for a taste sensation. Mains were the Singapore Chow Mein and the Sizzling Fillet Steak in bean sauce. Truly awesome!!! We will be back again without a doubt.
Our family of 7 went to the Mulan for my birthday treat. The food and service was excellent. Prawn toast and spring rolls were the stars of the starters. Salt n Pepper chicken, and Crispy Chicken in OK sauce were the main course stars. Tom and Denise provided excellent service.
Found the service to be very rude when visiting this restaurant. We booked a table and arrived ten minutes early to be greeted by a grumpy man. Not from the area and visited based on reviews but wish I’d went elsewhere.

We have used this restaurant for almost 30 years it was and still is the best Chinese restaurant in York We had the Sunday special lunch and it was delicious again. Thank you
